Student answer (Band 5.5)
In the modern world, technology has become a vital part of modern society. It is argued that science most important aim is to improve people's lives. I partly agree with this statement because it provides benefits in several sectors.
To commence with, there are several agree points associated with it. The most prominent point is, provide better health system. To explain it, technology helps in numerous ways such as helping in the education system and health departments. Moreover, with the help of technology not only provides better medicines but also provide better facilities and treatment to individuals. For example, since last years doctors faced many difficulties while finding and testing results or diagnoses of cancer, aids, downsyndrom but nowadays it has become easy to find the problem with the help of new technological machines. Therefore, new technical equipments improve individuals lives by providing better medicines or facilities.
Moving further, there are some supportive points. The main point is, it also help in agriculture and education sectors. Technology plays important role in the education system like providing e-books, online apps for study. In addition, it provide not only projectors but also robots, computers, smartphones so students study with the help of internet. Some new apps were launched like CHAT-GPT, GOOGLE. However, it also give new machines in agriculture and new fertilisers so it does not harm to crops and soil.
On the other hand, there are several drawbacks. The first and foremost point is, individuals become lazy. Students do not use their own minds in studies because they easily search on internet and it causes less creativity.
In conclusion, after taking all aspects into consideration, I would like to emphasize that it has some valid points. Although, it benefits in health departments, agriculture and education like providing several opportunities. I believe that, individuals become lazy or less creative because of technology.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear, albeit partially developed, position regarding whether the primary aim of science should be to improve human lives. The writer attempts to explore both sides by discussing the benefits of technology and science in health, agriculture, and education, while also acknowledging a drawback regarding human dependency and creativity. However, the ideas are somewhat repetitive and occasionally conflate 'science' with 'technology'. While the arguments are generally relevant, they lack deep extension and specific real-world examples, relying instead on vague assertions. This places the performance firmly in Band 6, where all parts of the task are addressed, but some ideas remain under-developed or unclear.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, moving from an introduction to body paragraphs supporting different aspects, followed by a conclusion. However, cohesion is often mechanical and faulty. Phrases like 'To commence with', 'Moving further', and 'On the other hand' are used as transition markers, but referencing and logical progression are frequently disrupted by grammatical errors and repetitive sentence structures. Paragraphing is attempted, but the body paragraphs are disjointed, grouping disparate ideas like education and agriculture together without smooth transitions. Overall, the organizational structure is visible, but the execution of cohesive devices is inadequate and mechanical, aligning with Band 5.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some topic-specific terms such as 'agriculture', 'education sectors', 'fertilisers', and 'diagnoses'. However, there are numerous lexical errors and awkward word choices throughout the text, such as 'several agree points', 'health departments', and 'technical equipments' (equipment is uncountable). Furthermore, spelling errors like 'downsyndrom' and 'aids' (instead of AIDS) occur, along with repetitive phrasing. While communication is not heavily impeded, the presence of noticeable errors and a lack of precision restrict the score to Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar is weak. There are frequent errors in verb forms, articles, and subject-verb agreement throughout the text. Examples include 'science most important aim is', 'technology helps in numerous ways such as helping in', 'with the help of technology not only provides', and 'it also give new machines'. Punctuation is also problematic in places, with comma splices and run-on structures. Although simple sentences are sometimes communicated clearly, the frequent grammatical errors cause some difficulty for the reader and prevent the text from achieving a higher band, placing it at Band 5.
