Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people argue that the most important aim of science should be to make people lives easier. I strongly agree with the idea that the aim of science should be to improve people lives.

First reason why I strongly support this statement is that, science can make our life easier and more convenient. For example, mobile is the best invention of science due to mobile we can do anything within seconds. Furthermore, many people are doing many things by using mobile phone such as, making video calls, clicking pictures, learning new skills and even talk to different people from all over the world. In addition, mobile phone makes life more reliable and faster.

Second reason Why I firmly believe is that, by science many metrologist can get information about weathers and astrologists can get information about stars and other things. The latest and biggest example of science is Artificial intelligence due to this we can predict future we can complete complex and difficult tasks in just seconds. Additionally, many people doing online work and earn a lot of money because of science. In short without science we cannot be able to live a life. Science make people dependent and bound.

In contrast, many people believe there are many disadvantages of science such as many people are using science in a wrong way. What is more, because of AI people are making fake videos of girls which are destroying the lives of girls. In addition, excessive use of mobile can affects the students grades and future.

In conclusion, I agree that the aim of science should be to improve people lives because we can become more successful and confident. Moreover, mobile phone, laptop and other inventions makes life easier due to people are making progress in science.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether the main aim of science should be to improve people's lives, clearly stating an agreement with the statement. However, the development of ideas remains somewhat limited and repetitive, relying heavily on the example of mobile phones and artificial intelligence without fully exploring broader societal implications. While a clear position is maintained throughout, some arguments—such as the counter-argument regarding misuse—are brief and under-developed. Ideas are presented, but they tend to over-generalise rather than being fully extended with deep supporting details. In accordance with the band descriptors for Band 6.0, all parts of the task are addressed, but certain aspects suffer from a lack of thorough elaboration and occasional slight digressions, such as the concluding remarks on becoming more successful and confident.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing used to separate distinct points, including an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, cohesion is frequently mechanical and repetitive, relying heavily on basic linkers such as 'First reason', 'Second reason', 'In addition', and 'In contrast'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, notably with pronoun usage like 'due to this we can predict future', which disrupts the natural flow of ideas. Paragraphing is adequate, but transitions between sentences within paragraphs lack sophistication. This aligns well with the Band 6 descriptor, where information and ideas are generally arranged coherently, but cohesive devices are occasionally faulty, mechanical, or over-used.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'metrologist', 'astrologists', and 'Artificial intelligence'. However, there are notable word choice and collocation errors throughout the text, such as 'make people lives' instead of 'make people's lives', 'metrologist can get information about weathers', and 'Science make people dependent and bound.' Spelling is generally acceptable, but vocabulary limitations and awkward phrasings occasionally surface. Because the student attempts a reasonable range of topic-specific words while experiencing frequent minor inaccuracies that do not completely impede communication, this performance corresponds to a Band 5.5 or solid 6.0 range, sitting comfortably at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The response features a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, though attempts at complex structures frequently contain errors. Examples include dangling modifiers and awkward phrasing like 'due to mobile we can do anything within seconds' and 'Second reason Why I firmly believe is that, by science many metrologist can get information...'. Punctuation errors, such as missing apostrophes in possessives ('people lives') and unnecessary commas, are common. Although grammatical errors occur regularly throughout the text, they rarely impede overall communication of the core message. These characteristics match the Band 6 descriptor, reflecting a mix of simple and complex sentence structures alongside recurring errors in grammar and punctuation.
