Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
The response attempts to address the prompt regarding the role of science in improving people's lives, but the ideas are severely underdeveloped and often obscure due to extreme language barriers. The writer attempts to present a position in the introduction, stating that science makes life easy and productive. However, the supporting arguments in the body paragraphs are disjointed and difficult to follow. For instance, the second paragraph mentions digital technology, smartphones, and telemedicine, but fails to clearly link these examples to the core question of whether science's primary aim should be improving lives. Similarly, the third paragraph discusses the negative impacts of scientific devices on children and mental health, touching on relevant real-world concerns, but the lack of clarity and logical connection prevents the ideas from being properly extended. Consequently, the response aligns most closely with the Band 4 descriptor, as the treatment of the task is minimal and the position is poorly supported.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
The organizational structure of the essay is basic, featuring an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, progression is frequently disrupted by severe lexical and grammatical inaccuracies. While some cohesive devices are attempted, such as 'One major reason', 'Another significant point', and 'In conclusion', their effectiveness is undermined by confusing sentence structures and referencing errors. For example, the pronoun referencing is often unclear, leaving the reader struggling to identify what 'it' or 'this' refers to. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct ideas, but the internal coherence within paragraphs breaks down rapidly due to fragmented and poorly connected clauses. This overall lack of clear logical progression places the response firmly within the Band 4 category.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.0
The vocabulary used throughout the essay is extremely limited and repetitive, with severe spelling errors that frequently impede communication. The target word of the essay, 'science', is misspelled repeatedly as 'since', and other key terms such as 'improdent rule' (important role), 'familily' (family), 'Tealimadicin' (telemedicine), 'sicintific' (scientific), and 'antother' (another) demonstrate a very basic and inaccurate lexical repertoire. There is no evidence of less common vocabulary used with precision or awareness of style; instead, the constant misuse of words and severe spelling failures strain the reader significantly. These characteristics are indicative of a Band 3.0 or 4.0 performance, best represented by a score of 4.0 because some basic vocabulary is recognizable.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.0
The grammatical range is severely limited, consisting mostly of simple and heavily flawed attempts at complex structures. There is a complete absence of error-free sentences, and grammar and punctuation errors occur in virtually every sentence. Examples include missing verbs, incorrect word order, and faulty clause connections, such as 'while some people believe that since is good and make easy life' and 'for example since work like as a human that's why people not work'. Tense consistency and subject-verb agreement are widely neglected. These frequent and pervasive errors cause substantial difficulty for the reader and often distort the intended meaning, matching the official descriptors for Band 4.0.
