Student answer (Band 5.5)

Nowadays many people are fond of science some of them learn this subject in order to achieve acadamic sucess while some learn to increse their knowledge. Many people argue that aim of science should be to improve people's lives while other disagree with this view. On larger extent from my perspective, it improves people's lives.

To begin with, many schools generally teach science to achieve acadamic goals. However, students should learn science to improve their knowledge and may be in future they might use science to improve their lives. There are many schools which generally focus on practical learning and these schools teach science to improve the qualityof their students lives. There are many things which beccome easy to do with general knowledge of science. For example, with the use of pulley people can easily lift heavy things.

Moreover, science is the most amazing subject. It allows people to think out side of box. There are several invensions which are made and that invensions have made people's lives easier. For example, several years back sir thomas alva edison invented bulb which is a great invension of scince because of this invension many people are able to use light in dark.

On the other hand, sometimes people generally use scientific reaserch to harm other people which is a flaw. If every thing is accessable to every one than many people will use to harm other people. For example, nuclear bomb is one of the dangerous reserch of science because it might harm alot of lives. However, it is controlled by the government it is not accessable to ordinary people which decreases the threat.

To put in a nutshell, the most important aim of science should be to improve people's lives and schools and colleges should teach science subject in more detail so infuture students will be able to make their lives easier. However, on smaller extent their are some disadvantages too but it can be controlled by puting some restrictions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position that science should improve people's lives, but the ideas remain somewhat limited and under-developed. While you introduce relevant examples such as pulleys and Thomas Edison's light bulb, these illustrations are basic and lack deeper extension. The discussion on the potential negative impacts of scientific research, like nuclear bombs, touches upon a valid counter-argument, but this point is also underdeveloped and abruptly concluded. To reach a higher standard, you need to explain your ideas fully rather than simply listing examples, ensuring every point contributes deeply to the central argument throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

There is a basic logical structure with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing some overall organisation. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by mechanical or repetitive cohesive devices. For instance, phrases like 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'On the other hand' are used to link paragraphs, but within the body paragraphs, sentences feel disjointed. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, such as the pronoun use in 'it is not accessable to ordinary people which decreases the threat'. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion needs greater skill and flexibility to guide the reader smoothly from one thought to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

Your vocabulary range is limited, containing noticeable errors that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. There are multiple spelling mistakes throughout the text, including 'acadamic' instead of academic, 'sucess', 'increse', 'qualityof', 'beccome', 'out side', 'invensions', 'scince', 'reaserch', 'every thing', 'accessable', 'every one', 'than', 'reserch', 'alot', and 'puting'. Furthermore, word choices are often overly simplistic or imprecise, such as describing a nuclear bomb as 'dangerous reserch' rather than a destructive technological application. To improve lexical resource, you must expand your control of word formation, spelling, and collocation beyond basic everyday language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The text demonstrates a limited range of sentence structures, relying heavily on simple or loosely connected clauses. When you attempt complex sentences, they are often faulty, featuring frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that can cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include missing articles ('invented bulb', 'in dark'), incorrect prepositions, and run-on sentences or comma splices, such as 'However, it is controlled by the government it is not accessable to ordinary people which decreases the threat.' To achieve higher bands, you need to incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex structures and exercise much better control over basic punctuation and subject-verb agreement.
