Coherence and Cohesion5.0
Lexical Resource5.0
Grammatical Range and Accuracy5.0
Overall5.0

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the task only partially. While the writer states a clear position agreeing that the main aim of science should be to improve human lives, the ideas presented remain limited and under-developed. For instance, the discussion regarding technology in daily life ('now im taking my exam at home by computer') and potential dangers like AI and air conditioning touches upon relevant themes, but lacks sufficient extension, depth, and support. Furthermore, it must be noted that the response falls short of the word count requirement, containing only 230 words against the minimum of 250 words, which restricts the overall development of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The text demonstrates some organisation with basic paragraphing, such as separating the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas throughout the essay. Cohesive devices are used rather inadequately or repetitively, evident in basic connectors like 'on the other hand' and 'in conclusion'. Additionally, referencing and inter-sentence links are sometimes weak, making the flow between arguments feel somewhat disjointed. To progress, the writer needs to ensure logical sequencing is maintained more smoothly and use a wider variety of cohesive ties without overusing simple transitional phrases.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is limited but minimally adequate to convey the basic meaning. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'dependent', 'environment', and 'alarming', but these are accompanied by noticeable errors in word choice, form, and spelling, such as 'creats' instead of 'creates', 'axample' for 'example', 'nowdays' for 'nowadays', 'dangarous' for 'dangerous', 'effecting' for 'affecting', 'worming' for 'warming', and 'biut' for 'but'. These spelling and lexical inaccuracies cause some difficulty for the reader and restrict the score. A wider and more accurate range of vocabulary is needed to achieve a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent errors. Attempts at more complex structures are often faulty, such as in the phrasing 'science should only for improve humans lives' and 'the technology which created by science' (missing passive voice). Frequent errors are present across verb forms, articles, capitalization, and punctuation—for instance, missing capital letters at the start of sentences ('The most...', 'I do...', 'this essay...'), run-on phrasing, and incorrect prepositions. These frequent errors cause strain and difficulty for the reader, though the core meaning can generally still be deciphered.
