Student answer (Band 5.5)

Focusing on science is crucial thing to enhance community lives. I strongly agree, because aiming on science can improve many sectors, such as healthcare and technologie, which can be back with a positive effect for people lives.

On the one hand, scientific research play a major role in health sector, along with that, it can save a lot of people from diseases or even death, as a result this can made people living their lives with more confortable way, without the fear from different diseases. For example, due to development of science in medecin, a lot of people now are getting vaccines to make them selves safe from multiple diseases that can harm their bodies.

On the other hand, the technologie nowadays became really useful because of science, and this made people life easier in many different sectors, like the sustainability of buildings, a long with that, buildings now became autonomous considerably, by using the rays of the sun to provide the electricity ,and the rain to provide drinkable water. For instance, in Tunisia, due to the lack of electricity, many people started using solar panels in their building roofs to provide electricity and reduce billes.

To conclude, I totaly agree that science should aim to improve people lives, in many sectors, such as health, to minimize the risk of diseases and death, also in technology sector, like the sustainability of buildings due to the need of earth to energy and espicially for poor countries that can not afford the energy needed for their popullation.

Overall5.5

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, presenting a clear position that science should primarily focus on improving people's lives. Relevant ideas are introduced regarding healthcare and technology, such as disease prevention and sustainable buildings. However, some ideas are under-developed or inadequately supported. For instance, the mention of building sustainability and solar panels in Tunisia is relevant, but the explanation remains somewhat general and lacks deeper extension. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop all ideas with more detailed explanations and more robust examples rather than relying on brief mentions.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and maintained throughout. Paragraphing is used sufficiently, with a clear division between healthcare and technology arguments. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in repetitive transitional phrases like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand', alongside slightly loose referencing where pronouns do not always clearly point to their antecedents. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure that logical progression between sentences is smoother and less predictable.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the writer's basic message. The student attempts to use less common items, such as 'autonomous', 'sustainability', and 'vaccines', but these attempts are accompanied by noticeable inaccuracies in word choice, spelling, and word form, such as 'technologie', 'billes', 'medecin', and 'popullation'. These lexical errors and awkward collocations cause some minor difficulty for the reader. To achieve a higher band, the writer must expand their lexical range and pay closer attention to correct spelling and precise word choice to ensure fluent communication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting complex structures to link ideas together. However, there are some errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including issues with article usage, prepositions, and subject-verb agreement, such as 'scientific research play' instead of 'plays', and 'made people living' instead of 'made people live'. Although these errors are present, they rarely impede overall communication. To reach the next level, the student needs to demonstrate better control over complex grammatical patterns and increase the proportion of error-free sentences.
