Student answer (Band 5.5)
The main objective of science is to improve humans life. By working on healthcare and technology. I firmly agree that science has crucial role in our llife and its main task is to work for the betterment of individuals.
From my perspective, science such as helalthcare and technologies such be improve and should work for the improvement of humans. Development in healthcare is helpful for all especially in hospitals, advace techniques help to prevent from diseases and help to treat new diseases in a betterway. For instance, people got ill from influenza virus doctor helped them to get better and prevent others by telling them precautionary measures or by doing quaratine. Technologies such as ventilators, ultrasound machines and MRI machines helped a lot by diagnosing the diseases earlier. For example, by doing MRI we can diagnose all the malignacies, such as tumor or cancer and we start the treatment. This helps to prevent a person from worst consequences.
In contrast, it as many other responsibilities, Such as preserving biodiversity, and tackling climate change, we can't rely only on science, it may be somtimes harmful for us. Science can help individuals, but it has many other objectives such as expanding human knowledge and understanding universe. For example, space exploration or research cannot help improve daily life. Excessive use of technology sometimes can harm.
In conclision, science is doing many things to improve life such as in healthcare, technologies and understanding the nature, but it has many other goals such as in protect planet and other spieces.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position on whether science's main aim should be improving human life, supported by relevant ideas. However, development across the essay is uneven, which is characteristic of this level. For instance, the discussion on healthcare and technologies like MRI machines and ventilators is reasonably extended with examples such as cancer diagnosis and preventing the influenza virus. In contrast, the counter-argument regarding space exploration and biodiversity is rather limited and under-developed, lacking concrete explanation of how these alternative goals balance against the primary aim of improving lives. To reach a higher level, all main ideas should be fully extended with deeper analysis and more consistent support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear stance established in the introduction and followed through in the body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to separate distinct arguments, moving from healthcare applications to contrasting scientific goals. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is occasionally unclear. For example, transitional phrases like 'In contrast' and 'In conclision' are used, but internal cohesive devices within paragraphs can feel repetitive or abrupt, such as the frequent reliance on 'For example' to introduce instances. Pronoun referencing is also occasionally loose, making it harder to track the logical flow between sentences smoothly. Improving the variety of cohesive devices and ensuring seamless transitions would enhance the overall logical progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common lexical items such as 'biodiversity', 'malignancies', and 'precautionary measures'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'helalthcare' for healthcare, 'advace' for advanced, 'quaratine' for quarantine, 'spieces' for species, and 'conclision' for conclusion. Some phrasing is also awkward or imprecise, such as 'humans life' instead of human life and 'worst consequences' instead of severe consequences. While these errors do not severely impede communication, they reflect a limited precision in word choice and spelling control. Expanding lexical precision and carefully proofreading for spelling slips would significantly strengthen this aspect.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional and relative clauses. There are, however, some errors in grammar and punctuation distributed throughout the text. These include missing articles or pluralisation issues, such as 'science has crucial role', fragment sentences like 'By working on healthcare and technology.', and awkward verb forms or tense choices like 'technologies such be improve'. Punctuation and sentence boundaries occasionally slip, leading to run-on structures or misplaced commas. Despite these errors, they rarely impede overall communication, and the basic meaning remains understandable. Greater control over complex sentence patterns and careful checking of articles and verb agreements will help elevate the grammatical accuracy.
