Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You successfully address all parts of the task by presenting a clear position and supporting your views on whether science should aim to improve people's lives. Your ideas are relevant, particularly regarding healthcare advancements such as the Covid-19 vaccine and treatments for fatal disorders like cancer and diabetes. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, your second main body paragraph touches upon career opportunities, international studies, and multinational companies, but these points remain somewhat under-developed and lack the depth of explanation seen in your healthcare examples. To move to a higher level, you need to extend all your main arguments equally with more thorough explanations and fully realized examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your essay demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and a definitive conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices to connect your ideas, such as "For example," "In addition," and "Similarly." However, your use of cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in the slightly awkward transitional flow between paragraphs and occasional referencing issues, such as the ambiguous pronoun reference in "they can apply to various international corportions." Paragraphing is used sufficiently, but the logical progression within your second body paragraph could be smoother to guide the reader more effortlessly. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices more flexibly and ensure seamless transitions between sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempt less common items such as "multinational companies," "contagious diseases," and "financial security." However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally detract from your writing, such as "corportions" instead of corporations, "labortories" instead of laboratories, and referring to science as "the science subject." Furthermore, phrases like "development of person's reputation" show some awkwardness in collocation. These errors do not impede communication, but they prevent you from achieving a higher band. To lift your lexical score, you should expand your range of less common vocabulary and pay closer attention to precise word choices and correct spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You show a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout your essay, attempting various dependent clauses and compound structures. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but they rarely impede communication. Examples include missing articles or pluralization issues, such as "science subject should be taken as an essential subject" and "workers may get a better employment chances." Additionally, there are minor punctuation lapses, like the stray full stop in "Similarly. workers may get..." Your control over basic sentence structures is generally sound, but attempts at more intricate grammatical patterns occasionally introduce errors. To reach the next level, you should increase the frequency of error-free complex sentences and refine your control over articles, prepositions, and punctuation.
