Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by presenting a clear position agreeing with the prompt and supporting it with reasons. However, some ideas are under-developed or supported with very simplistic explanations. For instance, the discussion regarding household gadgets like a 'fan' is kept at a basic level without thoroughly exploring how such inventions fundamentally improve human lives on a broader scale. While the main stance is clear throughout the essay, the arguments rely on limited generalisations and lack deeper extension, which keeps the development at a restricted level. To move further, the writer needs to fully expand each supporting point with richer, more detailed explanations and more sophisticated real-world examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the use of paragraphing is generally sufficient and appropriate. There is a logical progression of ideas from discussing everyday convenience to discussing knowledge discovery. However, cohesion at times feels mechanical or repetitive, particularly with transitional phrases such as 'Another important reason is that' and 'In other words'. Referencing is occasionally slightly unclear, such as pronoun use in 'so he/she can discover more and can enhance there learning'. To achieve a higher standard, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive devices and ensure that referencing between sentences remains smooth and unambiguous throughout.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The lexical resource is limited but minimally adequate for the task, providing enough vocabulary to communicate the basic argument. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'inovation', 'perspective', and 'megnatic force', but these attempts are often marred by noticeable spelling errors, word form issues, and awkward collocations like 'having the existance knowledge' and 'put positive impact'. These vocabulary errors and inaccuracies sometimes cause slight difficulty for the reader. To improve, the student must expand their active vocabulary, pay closer attention to standard word forms and correct spellings, and use lexical items with a clearer awareness of natural collocation and academic style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer demonstrates a limited range of grammatical structures, relying primarily on straightforward sentence patterns alongside attempts at complex forms that are frequently faulty. There are noticeable errors in verb tenses, article usage, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions within grammatical patterns, such as in 'science make things effortless', 'we using it', and 'know getting benefits'. These frequent errors can occasionally cause difficulty for the reader, although communication remains generally possible. To reach a higher standard, the writer must incorporate a wider variety of error-free complex sentence structures and improve grammatical control over tense consistency, plurals, and structural agreements.
