IELTS Writing Task 2 question
The most important aim of science should be to improve people’s lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answers and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
The siginficant factors of science should be to more knowledge people's lives. States extend their teacher and technology to provide science.
On the first hand, science is fasnating topic fo lerner to take expriments with theortical and praticals with applications. The main reason for prioritising human well-being is that scientific discoveries can solve serious problems and improve living standards. For example, advances in medicine have led to vaccines, antibiotics, improved surgical techniques and treatments for many diseases. These developments have significantly reduced mortality and allowed people to live longer and healthier lives. During the COVID-19 pandemic, scientific research played an essential role in developing vaccines and understanding how the virus spread. This demonstrates how science can directly protect millions of people.
Another important area is technology and communication. Scientific research has contributed to the development of smartphones, the internet and modern transportation systems. These technologies have made it easier for people to communicate, access education and travel. In developing countries, digital technology has also enabled students to attend online classes and access educational resources that may not be available locally. Therefore, scientific progress can reduce barriers and create opportunities for people from different backgrounds.
However, I do not believe that every scientific activity must have an immediate practical benefit. Basic research, for instance, is often conducted simply to understand how the natural world works. Discoveries in physics, biology and astronomy may not produce an immediate improvement in people's lives, but they can provide the knowledge necessary for future innovations. Many important technologies were developed from scientific discoveries whose practical applications were not initially known.
In concluion, I agree to state should improving people's lives in science subject, both side prons and cons of science because they have many incidents seen in thi fields in corona time period. fewer scientist directly apply to their discovery before the tials their medicine and technology.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing the extent to which science should focus on improving human lives, presenting a clear position that aligns with both sides of the argument. The ideas are generally relevant, satisfying the requirements for the mid-range bands. However, some parts of the response show under-developed or unclear ideas, particularly in the introduction and conclusion where sentences like 'The siginficant factors of science should be to more knowledge people's lives' lack clarity and precision. The body paragraphs present good extensions of ideas regarding health, technology, and basic research, meeting the lower-band requirements fully while only partially achieving the depth expected at higher levels. To reach a higher band, all parts of the response—especially the framing statements—would need to be fully developed and expressed with greater clarity and directness.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear paragraph structure, utilizing logical transitions such as 'On the first hand,' 'Another important area,' and 'However,' to separate distinct points. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty, as seen in the slightly awkward transitions at the beginning and end of the text. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and some cohesive devices are used clumsily, preventing a fully smooth progression of ideas. Paragraphing is present and generally appropriate, separating the introduction, body arguments, and conclusion adequately. To improve cohesion to the next level, the writer needs to ensure that all logical links between sentences and paragraphs flow more naturally without relying on rigid or repetitive connector phrases, thereby establishing a completely seamless progression throughout the response.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate main ideas about science, medicine, and technology. The student attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'scientific discoveries,' 'mortality,' and 'theoretical and practical applications.' However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that occasionally impede communication, such as 'siginficant,' 'fasnating,' 'lerner,' 'expriments,' 'theortical,' and 'praticals.' Additionally, collocation and phrasing issues appear, such as 'to more knowledge people's lives' and 'in concluion, I agree to state should improving people's lives.' These recurring lexical slips and spelling inaccuracies restrict the score to this band. Achieving a higher band would require a wider, more flexible range of vocabulary used with greater precision, minimal spelling errors, and a strong control of word choice and natural collocations.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The text demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, with the writer attempting various structures to explain different viewpoints. There are some errors in grammar, articles, and preposition use—such as 'States extend their teacher and technology to provide science' and 'fewer scientist directly apply to their discovery before the tials their medicine'—which occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede overall communication entirely, and the writer manages to produce some correct complex sentences in the body paragraphs. To move up to the next band, the writer must demonstrate a better control of grammar and punctuation, reducing the frequency of structural errors and ensuring that complex sentence forms are consistently accurate and error-free.
