Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this modern era, science has shown many improvment in understanding the dynamics of life. Now, it is argued that the improving people's life should be the most important aspect of science. I believe, science has contributed a lot to improve human life and is presently doing its job. However, focusing solely on one particular thing might decrease the growth of other fields and will indirectly affect the human life.
To begin with, science's goal is to understand, explain and explore the various aspect of universe. However, science has made many innovations that has helped human race to enhance life quality. For instance, the life expectancy in earlier period of time was comparatively lower than this period of time. Innovation in medical sector has made this possible without science it would not be possible. There are many examples to prove that science has improved human life in many manner.
Moreover, often people argue that science nowadays is focusing on other fields such as space exploration and so on. In contrast, exploring such fields is also necessary to mitigate certain threats that might be harmfull for human race. In this perspectice, priortising every field equally will directly or indirectly improve people's life. Science has explained many theories and using it humans have made many innovations. Hence, it proves to critics that science has only contributed to enhancing life standards.
In conclusion, in present time science is contributing to many innovations, however, critics argue that science mostly should focus on increasing life quality. While, in my opinion, focusing only on certain criteria will decrease the pace of growth of other sectors.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task and presents a clear position regarding whether science's main aim should be improving people's lives. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. While the writer discusses medical advancements and space exploration, the explanations tend to be somewhat generalized and repetitive, such as stating 'science has improved human life in many manner' without providing deeper elaboration. To reach a higher level, the ideas need to be more fully extended and supported with precise examples rather than broad assertions.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and the writing is divided into appropriate paragraphs. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. For instance, transitional phrases like 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In contrast' are used, but referencing and logical progression can be slightly disjointed, as seen in the phrase 'In this perspectice, priortising every field equally'. To improve, the writer should ensure that cohesive devices connect ideas smoothly and that referencing is consistently clear throughout the text.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, successfully conveying the writer's meaning. The student attempts less common vocabulary, such as 'mitigate', 'life expectancy', and 'space exploration'. However, there are noticeable word choice, spelling, and word form errors throughout the text, such as 'improvment' instead of improvement, 'aspect' instead of aspects, and 'harmfull' with an extra 'l'. While these minor lexical inaccuracies do not impede communication, a wider and more precise range of vocabulary with accurate spelling is required to achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some ability to construct subordinate clauses, such as 'While, in my opinion, focusing only on certain criteria will decrease the pace...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including missing articles ('improving people's life'), incorrect prepositions ('in this period of time'), and issues with verb forms ('science nowadays is focusing'). These errors persist throughout the response, but they rarely impede communication. A higher band would require a greater frequency of error-free sentences and tighter control over complex grammatical structures.
