Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people believe that the primary goal of science must be to make people's lives better. I completely agree with this statement as I believe that human mental and physical well-being should be the top priority.

In this rapid scientific and technological advancement era, more and more individuals are getting busy in their lives. From the white collar jobs to the blue collar jobs everyone is working diligently for themselves and their nation. Scientific methods should be used to make their lives better. For instance, a working woman works 9-7 job to help her family. However after getting off from work they have to cook, clean and even give time to their family leaving no free time for them. In this senario, I believe using automatic appliance to clean the room, wash the dishes and clothes can make their lives a bit easier.

Scientific inventions also play a crucial role in other sectors such as agriculture, energy and educational. Scientists have invented the methods to produce genetically modified foods which are resistant to pests and diseases and yield more crops meeting the food requirements of the increasing population. Energy sectors now utilize renewable resources of erergy like wind, solar and water, that meet the energy requirements. The most signifiacant advantage of using there resources is less eniviromental pollution. Many school these days are using advanced methods of teaching on the IPads , phones and laptops which decrease the burden of students buying so many books and also carrying so many books in their back pack.Science has reduced the burden of work for most of the people which in result give them more free time to take care of thier mental health.

In conclusion, science has already improved our lives a lot. I believe that the main motivation of scientific inventions and methods is to make human lives easier by aiding them in different phase in their lifves.

Overall6.0

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address all parts of the task and present a clear position from the beginning to the end, fully agreeing that the primary aim of science should be improving lives. Your response successfully meets the criteria for the lower band by covering relevant ideas such as household automation, agricultural advancements, and educational tools. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others, preventing you from reaching a higher band. For instance, your discussion on household appliances like washing machines and robotic cleaners is extended well with a specific scenario about a working woman, but your points regarding agriculture and energy are rather brief lists rather than fully expanded arguments. To move up, you need to ensure that every main idea you introduce is equally explored and supported with deeper explanations or comprehensive examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

Your essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion, and you attempt to guide the reader through your arguments using cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'However', and 'In conclusion'. Paragraphing is used to separate distinct topics, which helps maintain readability. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical and referencing is not always completely clear. For example, your transition between paragraphs relies heavily on simple linking words, and phrases like 'using there resources' create slight ambiguities in referencing the correct nouns. To achieve a higher level of cohesion, you should employ a wider range of referencing expressions and ensure that your cohesive devices flow more naturally without feeling formulaic or repetitive.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common vocabulary items such as 'well-being', 'genetically modified foods', and 'renewable resources'. You also attempt topic-specific terminology related to science and daily life. However, there are noticeable errors in word choice, collocation, and word form that place you firmly within this band. For example, you write 'educational' instead of the noun 'education', 'senario' instead of 'scenario', 'signifiacant' and 'eniviromental' due to spelling slips, and 'there resources' instead of 'these resources'. Furthermore, phrasing like 'getting busy in their lives' is rather unnatural. To reach a higher score, you must refine your precision in word choice and eliminate spelling inaccuracies so that less common vocabulary is used flawlessly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence forms throughout your essay, attempting various structures such as conditional and participial clauses like 'Scientists have invented the methods to produce... which are resistant...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, but these errors rarely impede communication and you maintain good control over basic sentence construction. For instance, you make minor errors with articles and prepositions, such as writing 'In this rapid scientific and technological advancement era' instead of 'era of advancement', and omitting an article in 'Many school these days'. Additionally, pluralization slips occur, such as 'different phase in their lifves'. To progress to a higher band, you need to increase your proportion of error-free complex sentences and exercise tighter control over punctuation and minor grammatical agreements.
