Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt partially and takes a clear position by stating that the author completely agrees that the main aim of science should be to improve peoples lives. However, the ideas presented are limited and heavily under-developed. For instance, the writer attempts to give examples such as making clothes and cooking, but these lack sufficient detail and elaboration. The reasoning relies on repetitive assertions rather than extended arguments or varied examples from personal knowledge or experience. To move to a higher level, the writer needs to fully develop each supporting point with clear explanations and specific examples that directly relate to the prompt, ensuring the position is sustained throughout with well-supported arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some organisation present in the essay, as it is divided into an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. The flow between sentences and paragraphs is frequently disjointed due to repetitive patterns and a lack of varied cohesive devices. Basic conjunctions and repetitive transitional phrases such as 'Therefore' and 'Before science' are used repeatedly and often inaccurately, making the structure feel mechanical. Paragraphing is attempted, but the internal organization of each paragraph lacks logical sequencing. To achieve a higher level, the writer must ensure that ideas follow a clear logical progression and that a wider, more accurate range of cohesive devices is employed to connect sentences and paragraphs smoothly.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is limited and minimally adequate for the task, with noticeable errors in word choice, word form, and spelling that occasionally cause difficulty for the reader. The writer relies heavily on basic, repetitive terms such as 'science', 'life', 'peoples', and 'important', often repeating them multiple times within a single sentence or paragraph, as seen in phrases like 'science is most important of living in society because sciece is a part of human life'. Spelling errors are also present, such as 'sciece' and 'chnage'. To progress to a higher level, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, incorporate less common lexical items with greater precision regarding collocation and style, and improve basic spelling and word formation.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The writing demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with frequent attempts at complex or compound forms that are often faulty. There are frequent errors in verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, which can cause difficulty for the reader. Examples include 'In this statement talk about a important aim' and 'our time is not wasted we were completed all works is very fast'. Punctuation control is also weak throughout the text. To reach a higher level, the writer must improve control over basic grammatical patterns, reduce the frequency of errors in verb forms and sentence construction, and incorporate a wider variety of accurate complex structures.
