Student answer (Band 5.5)

it is often argued that science should play vital role in improving people's lives. I completely agree with this statement because science can be utilized in medication and research purpose, which will be discussed in this essay.

Firstly, i belive that science can be used in health care department and experiment. This involve with the knowledge of science doctors can create better medicines from people suffering from significant diseases. For instance, in most part of the world a lot of people suffer from disease like cancer, diabelties and other heart related diseases, science can support doctors to develop effective remediations to these disease so most lives will be safed.Another benefit is that science allows scientists and enterprenuers to discover new experiments which will improve our lifes. For example some business owner nowadays testing self driving cars, which will help people to their daily jobs more efficiently.

Second, science also has some significant negative impacts on people lives because science sometimes can be used to make weapons and also chemicals. This means some nations and commuinities are developing weapons which cause harm to people lives. For example, some nations are developing bombs and other objects which they test to strength their military, but this can kill people lives . Moreever some researchers are using chemicals for their projects which can impact people health.

In conclusion, although science can be use can be used to construct dangerous objects which can harm human life, while i believe that sciance can be used to enhance people lives through medication and goo inventions. Therefore, researches or people should priorotize science to create postive impact on people lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you completely agree that science should improve people’s lives, and the essay addresses both its benefits and potential harms. The healthcare discussion is relevant and supported with examples such as developing treatments for cancer and diabetes. You also explain how self-driving cars could make daily activities more efficient. However, some ideas are less fully developed than others. The point about weapons and chemicals identifies risks, but it does not explain how these risks should affect the priority given to improving lives. The conclusion repeats your position rather than drawing together the reasoning. To strengthen the response, explain the connection between each example and your central claim, and clarify how harmful uses of science can be managed without changing your overall position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The first body paragraph groups positive applications of science, while the second introduces its risks, so the reader can follow the broad direction of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the move from medical research to self-driving cars is abrupt, and the second paragraph lists weapons and chemicals without developing the relationship between them. Linking phrases such as “Firstly,” “Second,” and “In conclusion” help signal stages, but the reliance on these basic markers can feel mechanical. Some sentences also run together, making the links between claims and examples harder to follow. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example explicitly to the point it supports.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “health care,” “medicines,” “self driving cars,” “weapons,” and “chemicals,” and you attempt more specific terms such as “military” and “researchers.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, spelling, and collocation errors are noticeable. Examples include “remediations” for treatments, “testing self driving cars” where “developing” or “testing autonomous vehicles” would be more natural, and “kill people lives,” which is not an appropriate collocation. Misspellings such as “diabelties,” “enterprenuers,” and “commuinities” also reduce accuracy. Build a bank of topic-specific phrases and check spelling and collocations; this will make your meaning more precise and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause with “because” and a relative clause in “which will help people.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, verb forms, articles, agreement, and punctuation sometimes make the reader work to understand the message. For example, “This involve with the knowledge of science doctors can create” has an unclear structure, while “science can be use can be used” contains a faulty verb form and repetition. In “some business owner nowadays testing,” the subject and verb pattern is incomplete. Several sentences also join independent ideas with commas, as in the example about diseases and scientific support. Practise constructing accurate complex sentences and separating complete clauses with full stops or suitable conjunctions.
