Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, due to rising poverty levels and heavy congestion levels faced by millions today across cities, have made people helpless only, therby me personally, just like thousands of people others think that, science must be used only for the aim of improving people's lives.

Firstly, it is favored by me that science must be used for people 's better living. In countries like pakistan, where most of the citizens are employed into field of farming, face heavy losses each yerar, due to rising energy costs of electricity, therefore, science can research more affordable and vaible energy sources such as solar energy, to help poor farmers around the developing countries to fulfill their energy needs at lower costs. These, developments can realise millions of poor farmers to generate profits, and put aside themselves from poverty trap, which eventually can elevate their living standards by the time.

Secondly, the world today where there can rising urbanisation seen so, there the problem of heavy road congestion is faced by millions of commuters daily, hence science can research on building more faster and affordable modes of transport to solve such a problem. For instance, mode of transport like bullet trains must be made more low cost for governments, to afford and install such networks in developing nations too, so that long commuting hours can be reduced for thousands. Which indeed, can leave spare time in daily commuters lives to spend learning somthings, or to strenghth family ties.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You take a clear position in favour of using science to improve people’s lives and give two relevant areas: affordable solar energy for farmers and faster transport to reduce commuting. These examples show an understanding of the topic. However, the response addresses the task only partially: the opening makes broad claims about poverty and congestion, while the body paragraphs mainly describe possible benefits without explaining why improving lives should be science’s most important aim compared with other aims. The second example also needs clearer development of how the proposed transport would help. The response ends with “However” and no conclusion, so your position is not fully rounded off. The response is six words below the required minimum; develop the reasoning and add a concise conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: an opening is followed by two body paragraphs, each introduced with “Firstly” or “Secondly,” and each focuses on a distinct example. This gives the reader a basic route through your ideas. However, progression is weakened by long, overloaded sentences and links that do not always show the relationship between ideas clearly. For example, the first sentence combines poverty, congestion, helplessness and your opinion in one confusing structure. Connectors such as “therefore,” “hence” and “which indeed” are sometimes used mechanically or attached to incomplete sentences. The final standalone “However” leaves the essay unfinished. Use clearer topic sentences, divide complex points into shorter sentences, and finish with a conclusion that restates your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “energy costs,” “solar energy,” “urbanisation,” “road congestion” and “commuters,” which helps communicate the examples. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “poverty trap” and “living standards.” However, the range is limited and several inaccurate word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to follow: “employed into field of farming,” “realise millions of poor farmers to generate profits” and “put aside themselves from poverty trap.” Spelling errors such as “therby,” “yerar,” “vaible” and “somthings” are noticeable. Aim for precise, natural combinations—for example, farmers can “reduce their reliance on costly electricity” and “escape the poverty trap”—and proofread spelling.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt complex sentences using clauses and linking words, for example when explaining how solar energy could help farmers and how transport could reduce commuting time. However, these attempts are often faulty, and frequent errors can make the reader work to understand your meaning. The opening has a broken construction: “Nowadays, due to …, have made people helpless” lacks a clear grammatical subject. Other problems include “where there can rising urbanisation seen,” “Which indeed, can leave spare time,” and inconsistent sentence boundaries. There are also errors with articles, plurals and possessive forms, as in “people 's better living” and “commuters lives.” Practise building accurate subject–verb sentences first, then add subordinate clauses; check punctuation so dependent clauses are not left as fragments.
