Student answer (Band 6.0)
The most essentail goal of science should be to enhance people`s life. I completely agree with this view as science can find cure to different diseases such as cancer and diabetes. Moreover, it can help countries with food shortages to overcome their challenges.
Science has played a vital role in the field of medcine over the past centuary. People in the past used to die of simple illnesses such as fever, smallpox and flu because there was no cure available for them. Advancement in science helped in finding medicines and cures for these type of illnesses and i think in the future, with right direction and goals with can find cure for diseases like cancer and diabetes. These diseases cause loss of millions of life all over the world. For example, more then 5 million people die due to cancer every year.
Science can also help less fortunate countries with food shortages by providing better agriculture practices. Even though science has come a long way to solving word problems, in many parts of the word lack of food is still a real issue. Corps can be grown more efficiently in these parts of the world with more scientific awareness and making science more acessable to these regions. It can improve growth by using fertilizers, modren machinery and better irrigation methods. For example, Using more stustainable and advanced fertilizers can help countries double thier yearly agriculture output.
In conculsion, I complete agree with the statement that science main aim and goal should be to improve people life as it can give cure to illnesses which were thought to be uncureable. Furthermore i can also help solve food shortages all over the planet.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you agree that science should improve people’s lives. You address this through two relevant areas—medical treatment and food production—and support them with examples such as cancer research, agricultural machinery and irrigation. This gives the response a focused argument. The medical paragraph explains how scientific advances have changed treatment, while the agriculture paragraph identifies practical ways science could help. To make the discussion more fully developed, explain the mechanisms or consequences in greater detail rather than relying on broad claims, such as the prediction that fertilizers could double output. A more precise, qualified example would strengthen the support and reduce generalisation. Overall, the main ideas are relevant and extended, though their evidence and explanation could be more convincing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs develop separate reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. The progression from healthcare to food security is logical, and signposts such as “Moreover,” “For example” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. This is a coherent arrangement, but some linking is mechanical, and the conclusion mostly repeats the introduction rather than drawing the two arguments together. Within paragraphs, make the relationship between claims and examples more explicit; for instance, explain how the example about fertilizer supports the broader point about access to scientific knowledge. More varied transitions and clearer links between evidence and explanation would make cohesion more flexible and natural.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “medicines,” “food shortages,” “agriculture practices,” “irrigation methods” and “yearly agriculture output.” These choices make the subject clear, and there are attempts at more specific language. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “medcine,” “centuary,” “Corps,” “modren” and “uncureable.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “find cure” and “loss of millions of life.” Aim to learn accurate topic collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, use “develop treatments for diseases” and “millions of lives are lost.” Greater variety in precise verbs and nouns would help express the ideas more fluently.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a reason clause in “I completely agree … as science can find…” and a concessive opening with “Even though.” This shows some range, and the main argument is generally understandable. However, errors recur in sentence structure and grammatical forms. Examples include “these type of illnesses” (number agreement), “with right direction and goals with can find” (article and clause construction), and “i complete agree” (adverb form). The final sentence also has an unclear subject in “Furthermore i can also help.” Review agreement, articles, pronouns and sentence boundaries, and proofread capitalization and punctuation. Building accurate complex sentences before adding further complexity will improve control and readability.
