Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You state a relevant general view that science should improve people’s lives, and you mention medical equipment, medicines and vaccines as examples. However, the response only minimally addresses the question of how far you agree: it shifts repeatedly to saying that people and students should study science, which is not the same as explaining science’s most important aim. The examples are asserted rather than developed, and the discussion of government and protection from “wires” is unclear. The response also contains 240 words, so it is 10 words below the required minimum; the 10 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. To strengthen the response, state your position clearly and explain and support two relevant reasons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is a basic paragraph structure, with an opening, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and connectors such as “For example,” “On the other hand” and “However” show an attempt to link ideas. However, the ideas are not arranged in a clear progression: the response moves from science improving lives to people studying science, then to parents enrolling children, without explaining how these points support the central argument. “On the other hand” introduces no clear opposing view, and the conclusion largely repeats earlier claims rather than drawing them together. Organise each body paragraph around one reason, use linking phrases only when the relationship is accurate, and make references between sentences clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses a basic set of topic-related words, including “science and technology,” “medical equipment,” “medicines” and “vaccines,” so the general subject is usually recognisable. However, vocabulary is repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “science,” “useful” and “people,” and several spelling errors make the writing less clear, such as “furture,” “techonolgy,” “intrest” and “vaciness.” Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural, including “science is a demading a lot” and “joining their children's in science cources institute.” Build a wider range of accurate topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations. For example, describe science as “in high demand” and refer to “enrolling children in science courses.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some longer sentences and use basic structures to express reasons and examples, but the range is limited and errors occur frequently, sometimes making relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For instance, “The most vital aim of science be” is missing a correctly formed verb, while “people's should learn science” has an incorrect subject form. Agreement and sentence construction are also problematic in “science and technolgy is also used” and the long sentence beginning “However, nowadays most of the people…” Several sentences run together without clear punctuation, especially in the final paragraph. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles and complete sentence boundaries, then build longer sentences from correctly controlled clauses.
