Student answer (Band 5.5)
The most important aim of science should be to improve people's lives. I agree to this statement to a major extent. As the science and techonology evolves, the people lives should becomne easier instead of difficult. The major sectors that should be given priority is the medical, education and architecture. For example, cures for the many diseases; cancer and viral infections can be found using the latest technology. Schools and universities can be given acess to the improved models of computers and high internet speed for learning purposes. The architectural models for buildings and homes can be designed according to the weather and land conditions of an area to prevent harmful imapcts of natural disastors. Parents can keep a check on their childrens activity by turning on parental controls on a device which can only be turned on and off by the passowrd set by parents. Household chores should also be made easier to manage by automatic machines and detectors. Security of the home and person can also be improved if the science is used for the right purposes. But, unfortunately, we can not ignore the possible outcome of all this development that this techonology can also be used for harmful and evil purposes. To prevent this, the governments should issue laws and licenses which allows a citizen to trust and use this science-based technology without being too overwhelmed and scared. Privacy, security and compliance to the rules should be made the base purpose of science used in improving people's lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you agree to a major extent, and the examples about medicine, education, safer buildings, household tasks and security are relevant to improving lives. You also acknowledge a counterpoint—that technology can be misused—and suggest government regulation. However, several examples are listed rather than explained, so the links between scientific progress and its effects on people are sometimes under-developed. The discussion of parental controls, for instance, could explain more directly how this improves wellbeing. The response contains 241 words, so it is 9 words below the 250-word minimum; the 10 words copied from the task prompt are not counted. Develop fewer examples in more depth and ensure the response meets the required length.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a generally understandable sequence: it states your position, gives examples of beneficial applications, and then introduces the risk of misuse and a regulatory response. This provides an overall arrangement, but the ideas are compressed into one paragraph, making the progression harder to follow. The repeated pattern of listing sectors and examples also makes the development feel mechanical. The transition beginning “But, unfortunately” signals a contrast, although the relationship between the preceding examples and the need for regulation could be made more explicit. Use separate paragraphs for your main benefits and the counterargument, and connect each example to the central claim with clear explanation. This would strengthen progression and make references between ideas easier to track.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “viral infections,” “parental controls,” “natural disasters,” “privacy” and “security.” These choices help communicate the subject, but several expressions are imprecise or unnatural, such as “the people lives,” “improved models of computers,” and “the base purpose.” Spelling errors—including “techonology,” “acess,” “imapcts” and “disastors”—also reduce accuracy and make the writing less polished. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully. For example, describe how technology can “enhance quality of life,” and refer to “access to up-to-date computers” rather than “access to the improved models of computers.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple statements and more complex structures, including the clause “which can only be turned on and off by the password set by parents” and the conditional idea about technology being used for harmful purposes. The meaning is usually clear, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “the major sectors … is” has subject–verb disagreement, while “As the science and technology evolves” needs a more accurate subject construction. There are also problems with articles, plurals and sentence boundaries, as in “cures for the many diseases; cancer and viral infections.” Review agreement and article use, and punctuate lists and examples more carefully. Greater control of these patterns would make your varied sentences easier to read.
