Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, there is an ongoing debate about that the main aim of the science is to improve the people's lives. I disagree with this view because scientist do research not to improve the people lives but sometimes it can help to deal with problems like global weather changes.

One of the main reasons why science is important in this modern world, especially in the all the sectors. Many people can now easily communicate with other people all around the world, because of the invention of mobile device technology. With the help of satellites, many countries are able to cope with weather problems like they can detect the weather situations early. As a result, science can be useful in medical field also, like doctors can use the highly advanced machines to cure the patients very fast.

Another important reason is that with the invention of internet, people can now easily find the information about anything and helps them to clear their doubts. Although, science can be useful in military field, for instance, army can use the high tech artilary weapons like drones or night vision cameras, which can helps them to check on the enemies border. It can be more useful in aviation field also, with the help of raddar system pilots can communicate with headquarters.

In conclusion, it can not only be useful for making people lives more convienent but also in other areas. Especially, it can be more helpful in medical sector and defence sector. The purpose of science is to analyse and research quickly.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear disagreement and provide relevant examples from communication, weather forecasting, medicine, the military and aviation. These examples show that science has applications beyond directly improving everyday life. However, the response only partially develops the central issue: it does not explain what science’s main aim should be instead, and the opening claim that scientists research “not to improve” people’s lives is not supported or reconciled with the benefits you describe. Several examples are listed rather than explained, so the argument remains limited. To strengthen the response, state a more precise position—for example, that science should pursue knowledge while practical benefits are important—and develop two examples to show why this is so.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The body paragraphs group examples by topic, and phrases such as “One of the main reasons” and “Another important reason” help signal progression. However, the overall line of argument is not consistently clear: the examples show science improving people’s lives, which conflicts with the stated disagreement, and the conclusion does not resolve this tension. Some links are mechanical or awkward, such as “Although” introducing an example without a contrasting clause, while “also” is repeated. Improve progression by giving each paragraph one clear claim, explaining how its examples support your position, and using linking phrases that express the actual relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate a range of examples, including “satellites,” “weather,” “medical field,” “military field” and “aviation.” There are also attempts at more specific expressions such as “night vision cameras.” However, the range is limited and several choices or collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, including “weather situations,” “clear their doubts” and “check on the enemies border.” Spelling errors such as “artilary,” “raddar” and “convienent” are noticeable and reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural academic phrasing and check spelling carefully. For instance, use “weather conditions,” “resolve their questions,” and “monitor enemy borders”; these choices would make your examples clearer and more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because” and “although,” and most of the main ideas can be understood. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in sentence structure, agreement and articles. The opening “there is an ongoing debate about that” uses an incorrect clause pattern, while “One of the main reasons why science is important in this modern world, especially in the all the sectors” is a sentence fragment. Other examples include “scientist do research,” “people lives,” and “which can helps them,” where agreement or possessive forms are faulty. Practise complete sentences and check subject–verb agreement, articles and possessives. Vary sentence patterns only after you can control these forms reliably.
