Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction—“I firmly agree”—and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the question with two relevant reasons: science improves healthcare and makes everyday life more convenient and productive. The examples of early cancer detection, vaccines, communication technology and farming help support these points. This is a strong response to the task, with ideas extended and supported. To make the argument more fully developed, explain more precisely how the examples demonstrate that improving lives should be science’s *most important* aim, rather than simply showing that science has benefits. The military paragraph also introduces a counterpoint, but its examples and connection to your position are not fully clear; develop this contrast and explain why human welfare should take priority.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around distinct benefits, and a conclusion that restates your position. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and the healthcare and daily-life points are separated appropriately. This gives the essay a coherent foundation. However, cohesion is not always smooth: “Although scientific research also be used in military equipment” begins a contrast that is not completed clearly, and the following examples do not connect logically to the claim that science should focus on health. Some transitions feel formulaic. Make the relationship between each example and your main argument explicit, and use clearer referencing and contrastive links to guide the reader.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “quality of healthcare,” “medical researchers,” “epidemic,” “scientific discoveries,” and “food shortage.” These choices show an effort to discuss science beyond basic, general terms. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word forms are frequent enough to make the vocabulary less precise and sometimes slow the reader: examples include “signifiacnt,” “reasearch,” “comm inicta,” and “invoations.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “effective medicine” and “scientific creativity.” Aim to learn accurate spelling and common collocations as complete phrases, and choose words that express the intended meaning precisely. For instance, distinguish “medical technology” from “medical technologies” where appropriate, and use “innovations” rather than an unclear substitute.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and attempts at more complex sentences, including a result clause beginning “As a result” and a sentence with “Although.” This shows some structural variety, and the main argument is generally understandable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction are frequent, and several complex attempts are faulty. For example, “science has greatly enhance” needs a past participle, while “Modern computers … enable people to … access to information” has an incorrect verb pattern. The military sentence beginning “Although” is also incomplete, and “scientific creativity should mainly focused” lacks the required verb form. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and building complete clauses, especially when using contrast and infinitive structures.
