Student answer (Band 5.5)
Science has a lot of advantages to human life. Now, it has made human life much easier and faster. It is argued that the most important aim of science should be to improve people's lives.I partially agree with the statement.
At first, science has a lot of things for human life like cars, buses, aeroplanes and many things. These things have made our lives faster than in the past. Science is still working to discover new things and other planets on which the life should exist because the population of the world is increasing very fast. According to my perspective, the most important discovery of science is mobile phone. it has removed a lot of burden o human. For instance, we can now communicate with any person living in any part of world without any hurdle. It has made a great deal of our work easy. Now, we can do business dealings, reserve any thing, buy or sell anything within minutes. All these things have possible with the help of science. In short, it has great advantages.
In contrast, it does not mean that science just do things to made life esay. There are other purposes of science such as to explain the things which are happening in our daily life. For example, How rain occur? How sun rises? How plantes revolve around earth? How days and nights are comings? and large number of other things like this. All these things are needed to explore and reveal the truth. These things will enhace human knowledge and made things easy for human. So, there are the other things for science to do, not only focus on human faciities.
Overall, I would like to say that science just not focus on human's luxuries but on other things also. These things are necessary for human to understand as they will increase his knowledge and made new things easy to understand.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You give a relevant response and state a partial position, then support the benefits of science with examples such as transport and mobile phones. You also recognise that science has aims beyond convenience, including explaining natural phenomena. However, the position is not fully clear: the opening says you “partially agree,” while the conclusion mainly argues that science should not focus only on luxuries, without explaining how you weigh improving lives against expanding knowledge. Several examples are listed rather than developed, and the discussion of scientific explanations does not clearly show why this aim matters in relation to the question. Make your degree of agreement explicit throughout and explain each main reason with a specific consequence or example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. The contrast marker “In contrast” helps signal a shift from practical benefits to science’s explanatory role, and examples generally follow the points they illustrate. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes loose: the first body paragraph moves from transport to other planets and then mobile phones without a clear hierarchy, while the second ends with a broad claim about facilities. Linking phrases such as “At first,” “In short,” and “Overall” are used, but they do not always make the relationship between ideas precise. Organise each paragraph around one central claim, then develop it in a clear sequence; use referencing and transitions more selectively.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “discover,” “communicate,” “explore,” and “reveal the truth.” However, the range is limited and several choices are repetitive or imprecise, such as “things,” “easy,” and “great advantages.” Some collocations and word forms are inaccurate, including “human faciities,” “made a great deal of our work easy,” and “the life should exist.” Spelling errors such as “esay,” “plantes,” and “enhace” also reduce control. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the overall argument, but they make parts less natural. Build a more precise vocabulary for scientific aims and outcomes, and check spelling and collocations when editing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including examples introduced by “For instance” and a contrast between science’s practical and explanatory roles. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence boundaries. Examples include “science just do things,” “How rain occur?” and “These things are needed to explore and reveal the truth,” where the construction is unclear. The sequence of questions beginning “How rain occur?” also lacks appropriate sentence punctuation and grammatical forms. These errors sometimes make the reader pause, although the main meaning is usually recoverable. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and question formation, and use a wider range of controlled complex sentences rather than joining several ideas loosely.
