IELTS Writing Task 2 question
The most important aim of science should be to improve people’s lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answers and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is often argued that, the main goal of science should be improve people's lives. I strongly agree with this statement because in recent decades people completely depend on science.
To begin with, the main reason is that it enables people to get more knowledge about education, healthcare, environment. This is because, individulas have become more concerned about healthcare and get proper medical treatment. For instance, the development of COVID-19 vaccine saves people's lives increadibly. Furthermore, people have concered about healthy eatting and lifestyle, which help them to lead a healthy life. As a result, people do not need to visit doctors frequently and get instant feedback.
Another crucual reason is that satellite allows people to communicate with friends and family. This is because individuals use several types of technologies such as mobile ohone, computer, laptop and they end up with video calls, chats and so on. Furthermore, people can easily go one place to another place in lshort time, thereby they do not have to wait long to visit their relatives and attend any important meeting. For example, aircraft is the most common and convenient way for travelling in short time. In addition, people can enable to get any news at anywhere in anytime. By using Chatgpt people can get solutions of their problems easily.
In conclusion, scinece already has a great impact on people's lives. Although science requires more research outside the earth, it should work on people's lives. By providing update technologies, easy trasportation, and usefull resources.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the opening: you strongly agree that science should improve people’s lives, and the conclusion returns to this view. You give relevant examples, including the COVID-19 vaccine, communication technology and aircraft, so the response addresses the task. However, the reasons are not developed equally. The healthcare paragraph links science to treatment and healthier lifestyles, but the claim that people therefore need fewer doctor visits is not fully explained. The communication and travel paragraph also lists benefits without showing in detail why improving lives should be science’s primary aim. Develop each main point with a clearer explanation of its impact, and briefly acknowledge other possible aims of science before explaining why human welfare should take priority.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs group related examples, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main direction. However, linking is sometimes mechanical, with repeated “This is because” and “Furthermore,” and some connections between claims are unclear. For example, the move from healthy eating to not needing frequent doctor visits needs a more explicit explanation. The final sentence, “By providing update technologies, easy trasportation, and usefull resources,” is incomplete and leaves the conclusion without a finished final thought. Use fewer formulaic transitions, make cause-and-effect links explicit, and ensure each paragraph and the conclusion end with complete, connected ideas.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “medical treatment,” “healthy lifestyle,” “communicate,” “convenient” and “transportation,” and the examples make your meaning generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors reduce precision. Phrases such as “get more knowledge about education, healthcare, environment” and “people have concered about healthy eatting” are awkward or unclear, while “mobile ohone” and “scinece” contain spelling errors. “Update technologies” is also not the natural phrase for new developments. Aim for more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations carefully; this would make your ideas clearer and more fluent without changing their meaning.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “because,” “which” and “thereby.” Most of the main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity and control. For example, “the main goal of science should be improve” needs an infinitive form, and “people can enable to get any news” has an incorrect verb pattern. The conclusion’s final phrase is a fragment rather than a complete sentence. There are also issues with articles and sentence punctuation, as in “satellite allows people” and the comma after “argued.” Practise accurate verb patterns and complete sentence construction, then proofread for articles and punctuation while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
