Student answer (Band 6.0)

The statement 'The most important aim of science should be to improve people's lives.' is totally valid and I agree to this statement but at some point, I disagree with that statement as well.

Science has always aimed to provide ease to daily lives of people. Every break-through that science does or any new innovation it brings, takes us one step towards a better future. Science always aims to solve existing problems or make the difficult tasks easier. We depend on science and the logical solutions it provides us in every difficulty are really reliable.

I am an AI engineer myself and I have made a few such automated systems that has helped a few people save their time and effort. For instance; my father had a lot of issue using computer to make powerpoint presentations or documents for his office. He once told me that he has problem focusing on screen and can barely type cause of poor eye-sight, so I decided to make such an Intelligent system that will just take the requirements from my father or any other user, process them, and make the desired file/document. So, I made that system and now my father and his mates in office use that system to prepare documents. So this proves that science is really helpfull in every form.

The other side of this statement is really dangerous. First, science has made many people dependent on it and slowly but surely, people are losing capability to work independent of science. Today's generation depends heavily on such tools that gives them ease for any hard work, instead of trying to solve it themselves. The second aspect of science being harmful is that, some organizations and communities aim does not align with improving people's lives, their aim is to bring chaos using science. Such as terrorists use science and scientific ways to bring unrestness to countries, harm people, damage resources, and do other illegal activies.

Their exist such groups that performe hidden experiments which are also illegal, to spread any virus or such viral disease that can have a huge negative impact on that community or the whole region.

So aiming science only for the betterment of mankind is really necessary but keeping it safe from the hands of wrong people is more important.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you support science improving lives, while recognising that it can be misused. The personal example about creating a system to help your father prepare documents is relevant and gives concrete support to your view. You also address the opposing concern through dependence on technology and harmful uses by terrorist groups. However, these points are not developed equally: the benefits are illustrated in detail, whereas dependence is asserted broadly and the examples of malicious experiments remain vague. The conclusion introduces the need to protect science from misuse, but this could be linked more explicitly to your degree of agreement. Develop each main reason with a clearer explanation or specific example to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall structure: it introduces a qualified position, presents benefits, considers risks, and ends with a conclusion. Paragraphing helps distinguish these stages, and signposts such as “For instance” and “The other side” guide the reader. At times, however, connections feel mechanical or repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “So” and “The second aspect.” Some references are also unclear: “that statement” and “such groups” require the reader to infer exactly what is meant. The final paragraph’s point about hidden experiments appears abruptly after the discussion of terrorism. Use more varied transitions and make links between claims explicit, so the progression feels smoother and each paragraph develops one connected line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “automated systems,” “innovation,” “dependent,” and “illegal experiments,” which helps communicate both the benefits and risks of science. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “the betterment of mankind.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “every break-through that science does,” “unrestness,” and “science is really helpfull.” Spelling errors such as “activies” and “performe” also reduce precision. These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding your main ideas, but they limit the naturalness and control of your vocabulary. Build accuracy by learning common collocations and checking spelling and word forms during revision.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional and relative clauses, as in “that will just take the requirements … process them, and make the desired file.” Most of your meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “systems that has helped” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “my father had a lot of issue” needs a plural noun. In “some organizations and communities aim does not align,” the possessive form is missing, and “Their exist such groups” has an incorrect subject construction. Punctuation around “For instance” and the long sentence describing the system also needs attention. Review agreement, possessives, articles, and sentence boundaries while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
