IELTS Writing Task 2 question
The most important aim of science should be to improve people’s lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answers and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
I completely agree that most important aim of science should be to improve people's lives. Science and technology can only develop the living standards of human race. Science is discovered to make things easy for the people, to complete their daily chores and to travel to work stations and many more. This is because all the mechanical equipments such as bikes, cars, machinery were all invented by science and all these equipment are very useful and make it easy for the human to live.
A new invention by science called AI(Artificial Intelligence) made our everyday work easy. It completed gained acess to our computers and many other electronic devices or gadgets. For example, a person can simply give a voice command to the AI's like Siri by Apple or Alexa by Amazon to turn on the tv or to send an email to his or her friend, these activities will be done easily with just a command.
On the other hand the medical field id all a branch of science which is playing a vital role in maintaining a good health of a person. If there is no medicine there will be no healthy person in the world, so medicine made it easier for a person to cure his or her diseases.
In conclusion, I would say that there is no world without science. It plays a very crucial role in modifying a person's life or the future. If science does not exist there is no life on the Earth because a cell or a life, which comes under biology is a part of Science.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the opening: you completely agree that science should improve people’s lives, and you support this with examples from transport, AI and medicine. These are relevant to the question and show how science can make daily tasks easier and protect health. However, the discussion is unevenly developed: the AI example is more specific, while the medical point is asserted rather than explained, and the conclusion shifts to the broader claim that life itself depends on science. To strengthen the response, explain more fully how each example demonstrates the importance of improving people’s lives, and keep the focus on the stated aim rather than making absolute claims such as “there is no world without science.”
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs on AI and medicine, and a conclusion. The examples generally follow the main claim, so the overall arrangement is understandable. However, progression between ideas is sometimes mechanical: “On the other hand” suggests a contrast, although medicine supports the same position, and repeated references to science and making life easier limit the flow. Some links between claims also need clearer explanation, particularly the move from medicine to “there will be no healthy person in the world.” Use transitions that show addition or development, and organise each body paragraph around one clear point followed by explanation and an example.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “living standards,” “voice command,” “medical field” and “maintaining a good health.” However, the range is limited and several choices or combinations are inaccurate or repetitive, which makes some sentences less natural. For example, “mechanical equipments” and “completed gained acess” are unclear, while “make things easy” and “made it easier” recur. Spelling slips such as “acess” also affect accuracy. Build a more precise range of collocations for discussing scientific benefits, and check word forms and spelling. More natural phrasing would help your examples sound clearer and more academic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a conditional structure in “If there is no medicine there will be no healthy person in the world.” The main message is usually understandable, but errors in sentence construction and grammatical forms are noticeable. For instance, “I completely agree that most important aim” is missing an article, “a person can … to turn on the tv or to send an email … these activities will be done” joins ideas awkwardly, and “the medical field id all a branch” contains a faulty verb structure. There are also inconsistent articles and singular/plural forms. Practise building accurate complex sentences, especially with clauses and examples, and proofread each sentence for complete structure and agreement.
