Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the recent years, science has played a key role to improve people's lives. Some people argue that it makes our life easy while, others argue that it makes the people life unhealthy. I agree that science has great importance in the people's life but i also believe that it makes our life unhealty by lowiering the physical activity.

On the one hand, the aim of the science is to imporve people's lives. These days science plays role in every field of life such as the usage of technlogy increasing day by day in our homes, offices, universities etc. For example, robots that clean floors makes the life easy and we can use this time in some other activites.

On the other hand, science makes us lazy and decrease our physical acivity. We try to ue technology and do not want to do any physical activity. For isntance, mobile is a great invention but it may decrease our physical communication and physical activity. I think governments should work on the recraetional activites for the residents by encouraging them to take part in these physical activities.

In conclusion, science plays a key role in every field of life and this is the most important aim to do peopel's lives better, although it can make humans physical inactive to some extent. Therefore, governments should take apporpriate approach to produce some activites. Bu I largely agree that main of science is to improves people's lives and science is doing very well in every field.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address the question and make your position clear: you largely agree that science should improve people’s lives, while recognising that technology can reduce physical activity. The examples of floor-cleaning robots and mobile phones are relevant, and the conclusion returns to your view. This fits the criterion because the main parts of the task are covered, but some ideas are less fully developed than others. In particular, the claim that science can make people unhealthy is mainly linked to inactivity; explain more precisely how this happens and why it matters. The suggestion that governments provide recreational activities is relevant, but its connection to science’s aims needs further explanation. Develop each example with a specific consequence or detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signposted by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. However, the progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and some links between ideas are not fully clear. For example, the move from mobile phones reducing communication and activity to governments encouraging recreation would benefit from an explicit explanation of how the proposal addresses the problem. The conclusion also repeats the position rather than bringing the two sides together. Use clearer referencing and connect each example directly to the point it supports, while varying the linking language.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “technology,” “physical activity,” “invention,” and “recreational activities.” There are also attempts at broader phrasing, such as “plays a key role” and “appropriate approach.” However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “unhealty,” “lowiering,” “recraetional,” and “apporpriate.” Some expressions are also unnatural, such as “the people life” and “produce some activities,” which can make the reader pause. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common collocations: for example, say “people’s lives,” “organise activities,” and “reduce physical activity.” This would make your ideas sound more precise and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “although” and a relative clause in “robots that clean floors.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but errors in sentence structure and grammatical control occur across the response. For example, “robots that clean floors makes” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “science makes us lazy and decrease” does not maintain agreement. The opening sentence also has an awkward construction, and punctuation around “while” is incorrect. There are some issues with articles, possessives, and verb forms, as in “the aim of the science” and “to improves.” Practise checking each sentence’s subject and verb, and use a few complex structures accurately rather than adding complexity without checking it.
