Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response shows a relevant position: you state that improving people’s lives should be a central goal of science, and you begin to support this by saying science has made life “convenient and easier.” However, the answer is only a brief opening and the start of one supporting point; it does not develop reasons or provide a relevant example, and it does not explain the extent of your agreement. The response also does not meet the required minimum length, so the task is addressed only minimally. To improve, state your position clearly, develop at least two reasons with specific examples, and include a conclusion that directly answers the question.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is an attempt to organise the response: an introductory paragraph is followed by “To begin with,” which signals the start of a supporting point. The overall progression is nevertheless incomplete because the response stops mid-sentence at “from underground to,” leaving the example and argument unfinished. Some linking is also awkward: “Despite it” does not clearly connect the ideas that precede it, and the opening fragment beginning “Although” is not completed as a full sentence. Use complete paragraphs with one developed idea in each, and make transitions express the relationship between ideas precisely. A clear sequence—position, reasons and examples, then conclusion—would make the argument easier to follow.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt some topic-appropriate and less common vocabulary, including “advanced technology,” “revolutionalized,” “indispensible,” and “elucidate.” This shows an effort to use a range beyond basic words, but several choices are inaccurate or unnatural: “revolutionalized” should be “revolutionised” or “transformed,” “indispensible goals” is an awkward combination, and “genuine consequences” does not clearly describe the reasons you intend to discuss. “Numerous way” also has a number-form error. Because the response is very short, there is little evidence of flexible vocabulary across the topic. Prefer precise, natural collocations such as “essential aims,” “significant impact,” and “everyday life,” and check spelling and word forms.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response attempts complex sentence structures, particularly in the opening, and uses a future-oriented phrase in “I will elucidate.” However, the first sentence is a dependent clause beginning with “Although” and has no main clause, while “Despite it” is not integrated into a complete, clear sentence. The phrase “some genuine consequences that why” also has a faulty grammatical connection, and “in numerous way” has incorrect singular agreement. These errors make parts of the argument difficult to interpret, although the intended general position can still be understood. Build complete sentences with a clear subject and main verb, and check clause links, plurals, and sentence boundaries.
