Student answer (Band 5.5)

The most important aim of science should be to improve people's lives. We can get different opinions on this topic. However, if you want to know my thoughts on it, I completely agree with this statement.

Let me explain you the fact behind it. We're living in 2026 and this is an era of Aritificial Intelligence (AI), new technologies and we can see new gadgets and experiments around us. This is just because of science. If we go back in 1900's, where science was not advanced and the dependancy was on man power rather than machines. Even a small task required much efforts and time as well. In the industries, we could find huge numbers of human resources.

On the other hand, nowadays, We still need human efforts but not in such a big numbers. We can observe machines, robots; who are actually performing smart work in the short time.

Let's take another example. When there was no vehicles, like cars, buses, trains, airoplanes etc. At that time, people used Camels, Horses to move from one place to another. That was very hectic and very time taking process. They usually spent days and months in travelling and it was not matter either their journey was secure or not. Then with the passage of time, the science played and important role. With the invention of vehicles, the travellers can travel in hours instead of days. They can move easily from one country to another and even they can go from one city to another city within hours.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you completely agree that science should aim to improve people’s lives. The examples of machines reducing industrial labour and vehicles making travel faster are relevant and help explain your view. However, the response addresses the task only partially because it mainly describes convenience and efficiency, without considering other possible aims of science or explaining why improving lives should take priority over them. The examples are also broad and would benefit from specific details and fuller explanation of their effects on people. The response is 246 words, so it falls four words short of the required 250-word minimum. To strengthen the argument, develop a second distinct reason and explain how each example supports your central claim.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two example-based body paragraphs, and linking phrases such as “On the other hand” and “Let’s take another example.” This makes the main line of thought understandable. However, progression is limited: the first body paragraph moves from AI to historical industrial labour, while the second focuses on transport, without a concluding paragraph to bring the argument together. Some links are mechanical or do not express the relationship accurately; “On the other hand” suggests a contrast, although the following point continues the case for science. The opening “We can get different opinions” also does not lead into a developed discussion. Use clearer topic sentences, connect each example explicitly to your position, and add a brief conclusion.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the general ideas, including “Artificial Intelligence,” “industries,” “human resources,” “robots,” and “invention of vehicles.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, sometimes making the reader pause. Examples include “dependancy was on man power,” “smart work,” “very time taking process,” and “the science played and important role.” There are also spelling errors such as “Aritificial” and “airoplanes,” and some repetition of basic terms such as “people,” “science,” and “travel.” Aim for more precise academic phrasing and check spelling and common word partnerships. For instance, describe machines as “performing tasks efficiently” rather than “performing smart work.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer structures, including conditional and time clauses, and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. For example, “If we go back in 1900’s, where science was not advanced” is an incomplete construction, while “When there was no vehicles” has an agreement error and does not form a complete sentence. Other problems include “Let me explain you the fact” and “the travellers can travel,” where sentence patterns or tense choices are not controlled. Punctuation and capitalisation are also inconsistent, as in “nowadays, We.” Practise building complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check articles, plurals, agreement, and tense consistency. More accurate control of these basics will make your ideas easier to follow.
