Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that many people believe that the essentail target of science should be to improve people lives. While others believe that its not important to aim only people lives. Howeever i agree to a great extent that aiming peolpe lives is far more essentail.

To begin with, there are other several things, people believe that science should focus on it like space exploration they should focus on exploration of space and other planets so we people will get knowledge about other planets as well as stars, moons, satelight and such type other things.

On the hand, I firmly believe that the significant aim of sciense should be to enhance humans lives and no doubt science work a lot for it. Science imp

roves human health, science introduce medicines and modified it time to time. For instance, in the past, many people died from simple diesease. Now becouse of science we have vaccines, antibiotics and modern hospital. Furthermore, in covid-19 science introduce a vaccciness very quickly and saved millions of lives without science it was almost impossible so save people on that time.

secondly, science makes our life easier and more compfartable, technology which comes from science, gives us electrucity, clean water and better comunication for example, technology gives us a mobile phones so by which we can contact with any one, even if he sit at the end of the land. Therefore it is clear that science help us in many ocassion of our lives.

In conclusion, although exploring spance and planets also have some benefits, While i agree to a great extent that science should be focused on improving humans lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you agree to a great extent that science should improve people’s lives, and you acknowledge space exploration as a competing aim. The health examples—vaccines, antibiotics and the rapid development of a COVID-19 vaccine—are relevant and help explain your view. The discussion of everyday technology also supports your argument. This addresses the task well, but the opposing view is only briefly mentioned, and the space-exploration paragraph lists possible benefits without explaining how they compare with improving lives. Some claims, such as science having “saved millions of lives,” would be stronger with a clearer explanation. Develop both sides more evenly and make the reasoning behind your final judgement more explicit to extend the response further.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, moving from an introduction to an alternative aim, then reasons for your position and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps distinguish the main points, and examples generally follow the claims they support. However, progression within and between paragraphs is sometimes difficult to follow. The opening repeats the idea that “many people believe” before introducing the opposing view, while “On the hand” and “secondly” do not create fully clear links to the preceding points. Some sentences run several ideas together, particularly in the technology paragraph. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s purpose, and connect claims to examples with clearer, more varied transitions. This would make the overall organisation easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “space exploration,” “vaccines,” “antibiotics,” “clean water” and “communication,” so the main ideas are usually understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “significant aim” and “enhance human lives.” However, the range is limited and some word choices or combinations are inaccurate, including “other several things,” “science introduce a vaccciness,” and “contact with any one.” Spelling errors such as “essentail,” “satelight” and “comfartable” are noticeable and sometimes make reading less smooth. Build a reliable set of topic-specific collocations and proofread spelling; choosing simpler, accurate expressions is preferable to using an uncertain phrase.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including a contrast with “While others believe…” and a cause-and-effect explanation beginning “Therefore.” These attempts show some range, and the central argument can generally be understood. However, complex sentences are often not controlled successfully: “While others believe that its not important to aim only people lives” is an incomplete or unclear construction, and “science introduce a vaccciness very quickly and saved…” shifts verb form within the sentence. There are also recurring problems with articles, agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “science help us” and the comma splice “Science improves human health, science introduce medicines.” Practise complete clauses, consistent verb forms and accurate punctuation, then check each sentence for agreement and articles.
