Student answer (Band 5.5)

The most important concern of science should be the betterment of mankind. The opinion and reasons for agrement and disagrement of mine are demonstrated below.

Examining the topic, I agree that the most important aim of science should be iprovind people lives, because if we see from the start of science till now the lives of people suffering from any kind of disease are saved by the findings os science, so in this way science is directly or indirectly for people on this earth. For example, if we look at the time of corona many people suffered from it and died but if science does not exist the rest of the people would have died by getting corona the vaccine for corona was the miricle of science.

The reason that i disagree with this is that not alwats the science is responsible for the improvment of people lives. Actually the peo[ple themselves are also responsible for the improvment. Moreover, the people can improve their lives by hepling others because when you are helping others you are improving somones life, in this way the amount of problems will reduce and the life of one will improve. For instance, if one person has some heath issues and the other people around him helps him by any means and chain continue to build lives of many can be improved.

To conclude, i have discussed my reasons and have given examples. in my opinion science plays a vital role in betterment but the people should build some moral character also for improvment of many lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You give a position that science should improve people’s lives and support it with a relevant example: the development of a COVID vaccine. You also introduce a counterpoint about individuals helping one another, so the response engages with the question. However, the position becomes less clear when you say, “The reason that i disagree,” without explaining whether you partly disagree with the statement or are challenging the idea that science is the most important means of improvement. The discussion of people helping others is relevant but does not directly compare its importance with science, and the example remains general. State your degree of agreement clearly and develop each reason with a more specific explanation of how it supports that position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Paragraphing also separates the argument for science from the counterpoint about personal responsibility. However, progression between these ideas is not always clear: “The reason that i disagree with this” signals a change in position, but the relationship between that point and your overall agreement is not explained. Some linking phrases, such as “Moreover” and “For instance,” help guide the reader, but connections within long sentences are sometimes difficult to follow. The conclusion mainly says that reasons and examples have been discussed rather than bringing the argument together. Use clearer transitions to show how the counterpoint qualifies, rather than replaces, your main position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “findings of science,” “vaccine,” “moral character” and “betterment.” However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make the writing less precise, such as “agrement,” “iprovind,” “miricle” and “improvment.” Some phrases are also unnatural or unclear, including “the lives of people suffering from any kind of disease are saved” and “the amount of problems will reduce.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and avoid repeating “improve” and “people’s lives” without variation. For example, you could use “enhance quality of life,” “medical advances” and “reduce the burden of disease.” Proofreading spelling and choosing precise expressions would make your ideas easier to understand.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a conditional structure in “if science does not exist the rest of the people would have died.” However, complex sentences are often faulty or difficult to follow, and errors occur frequently. For example, “the lives of people suffering from any kind of disease are saved by the findings” does not express the intended general point clearly, while “the other people around him helps him” has a subject–verb agreement error. Sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention, particularly in the long sentence about the corona vaccine. Practise building shorter, controlled sentences first, then combine ideas using accurate clauses. Check agreement, verb forms and punctuation when editing.
