Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you strongly agree that science should improve people’s lives. You give relevant reasons, including household technology, communication, healthcare, and access to education. However, these points are only partly developed. For instance, the examples of appliances and mobile phones are listed, but you could explain more fully how they change people’s lives; the medical paragraph also names diseases without showing specifically how scientific advances have helped treat them. The response is also 38 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to develop your reasons and examples. Add a more specific example and explain its impact to address the task more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs introduced by “Firstly” and “Secondly,” and a conclusion that restates your view. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The medical paragraph begins “In which,” which does not connect grammatically to the previous sentence, and “With this” has an unclear reference. The first body paragraph also moves quickly from appliances to phones without a clear explanation linking the examples. Use complete topic sentences and clearer references, and organise each paragraph around one main reason followed by explanation and an example. This would make the progression smoother while retaining your clear paragraph structure.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “scientific advancements,” “household appliances,” “medical field,” and “accessible.” These choices help communicate your main ideas, but the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make parts difficult to understand. Examples include “more convient,” “vaccum clears,” “the robert clears,” and “cure the unbeatably disease.” Some expressions are also imprecise, such as “computers into laptops,” where the intended relationship is unclear. Build accuracy by checking spelling and learning common topic collocations, such as “medical treatment,” “household chores,” and “access to education.” More precise vocabulary would help you explain your examples clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate your position using mostly simple sentences, with some attempts to link ideas through clauses such as “because scientific developments have made…” and “Although scientific discoveries may have other purposes.” However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction. For example, “scientific advancements has” should use a plural verb, while “science play” also needs agreement. “It help to reduce” and “it make easier” show similar problems. The fragment “In which it make easier…” also makes the relationship between ideas unclear. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and forming complete sentences before adding more complex structures.
