Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
You state a position—“I strongly agreed” that science should improve people’s lives—and attempt to discuss both sides. However, the response does not adequately answer the question: it focuses mainly on the history of scientific ideas, such as Newton’s theory and Einstein’s research, rather than explaining why improving lives should be science’s most important aim. The disadvantages mentioned in the introduction are not developed, and there is no clear supporting example of science improving people’s lives. The response is also 90 words below the required minimum, which leaves the argument substantially incomplete. To strengthen it, explain your position directly, develop relevant reasons, and support them with specific examples such as medical advances or clean-energy technology.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0
There is an attempt to organise the response with an introduction and transitions such as “To commence with” and “On the other hand.” These signals show an awareness of paragraph development, but the progression is difficult to follow because the main points are not clearly connected to the question. The first body section moves from the history of science to Newton and then to innovation without explaining the links between these ideas. The final section begins a point about Einstein but ends abruptly, so the response has no completed conclusion. Use each paragraph to develop one clear reason, connect examples explicitly to that reason, and finish with a concise restatement of your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You attempt some topic-related vocabulary, including “innovation,” “theory of gravitation,” “scientific technology,” and “research,” which gives the response a relevant starting point. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make meaning unclear, such as “the range of innovation was increased,” “surged of scientic innovation,” and “reached to sky rockets.” Spelling errors, including “commense,” “eearly,” and “belived,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural phrases and check spelling carefully. Vocabulary such as “scientific advances,” “improve quality of life,” and “medical breakthroughs” would help you discuss the prompt more directly and clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a contrast introduced by “However” and a sentence beginning “For example.” Nevertheless, control of sentence structure and verb forms is inconsistent. For instance, “the role of science was not define” needs a past participle, while “people was interested” has a subject–verb agreement error. The opening sentence also joins ideas with “but also” without a clear grammatical structure, and punctuation spacing is inconsistent. These errors sometimes make relationships between ideas hard to understand. Practise forming complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check tense, agreement, articles, and punctuation when editing.
