Student answer (Band 6.0)

Science plays an important role in our daily lives. Some people believe that its main aim should be to improve people's lives. I largely agree with this statement because science helps people to stay healthy and makes their daily activities easier.

In the first paragraph, I will show an important of scinece in our daily lives. The main reason is that science is very useful in the field of healthcare. Many diseases can be treated with the help of modren medicines and technology. For the example, doctors can use advanced machines to find health problems at an early age or stage. As a result, patients can receive better treatment and live longer lives. In the past, some diseases were difficult to treat, but today, many of them can be controlled. Therefore, scientific research should focus on imporving human health.

Another reason is that science makes people's lives more comfortable. There are many useful inventions, such as smartphones, computers and the internet. These technologies help people to communicate with others and get information quickly. For the example, students can attend online classes from their homes, and workers can complete their tasks more easily..

On the other side, science should not focus on comfort. It should also help to protect the environment and solve problems such as polluction. This is because a healthy enviroment is important for future generations. It is also discovering new things and understand how the world works such as scienctic discovering new living plants and they also research on animals behaviour.

In the closing, although improving people's lives is an important purpose of science. I believe that it should not be the only aim. Science should also help us gain knowledge, understand nature and protect the environment..

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you largely agree that science should improve people’s lives, while recognising that it also has wider purposes. The healthcare paragraph supports this view with relevant points about early diagnosis, treatment and longer lives, and the examples of online learning and work make the second reason understandable. You also address the qualification in the prompt by mentioning environmental protection and scientific discovery. However, these latter ideas are less fully explained: the discussion of discovering plants and studying animal behaviour is difficult to follow, and the relationship between gaining knowledge and improving lives could be made clearer. Develop each main point with a specific explanation or example, and keep the argument focused on how these aims relate to your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure, moving from an introduction to reasons, a qualification and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have a clear central topic, and linking expressions such as “As a result,” “Therefore” and “On the other side” help signal relationships between ideas. Some cohesion is mechanical, however, and the opening of the second paragraph—“In the first paragraph, I will show”—announces the essay rather than advancing its argument. The final body paragraph also shifts between environmental protection and scientific discovery without a clear link, while “It” in “It is also discovering new things” has an unclear reference. Use topic sentences that state the point directly and connect each supporting idea explicitly to the paragraph’s main claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “healthcare,” “advanced machines,” “scientific research,” “environment” and “future generations.” These choices make the main ideas accessible, and terms such as “controlled” and “communicate” suit the discussion. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural phrasing are noticeable, including “scinece,” “modren,” “imporving,” “polluction” and “enviroment.” Some collocations are also awkward: “For the example” and “an important of science” do not express the intended meaning naturally. The phrase about “scienctic discovering new living plants” is especially unclear. Check spelling carefully and learn common academic word combinations; more precise vocabulary would help you explain the environmental and discovery-related points.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and some more developed structures, including a reason clause (“because science helps people…”) and a result clause (“As a result, patients can receive…”). Most of the main argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems are present. For example, “In the closing, although improving people's lives is an important purpose of science. I believe…” leaves the although-clause incomplete as a sentence; join it to the main clause. In “It is also discovering new things and understand how the world works,” the verb forms are not parallel, and the sentence structure makes the intended subject unclear. There are also stray repeated full stops, as in “easily..” Practise complete complex sentences, parallel verb forms and accurate sentence-ending punctuation.
