Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you completely agree that science should improve people’s lives, and you give relevant examples from communication, medicine, education and banking. The response therefore addresses the topic, but the reasons are often asserted rather than explained. For instance, you list X-rays, MRI and CT scans, then say they “help[] to live longer” without showing how these technologies improve diagnosis or treatment. The banking point about protecting data is also brief and unclear, and the essay does not consider whether science has other important aims or possible drawbacks. To strengthen the response, explain the impact of each example and connect it directly to why improving lives should be science’s most important aim; develop fewer examples in greater depth rather than listing many sectors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay has a recognisable structure: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present examples, and a conclusion restates the position. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “Similarly,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the broad progression. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and the second body paragraph moves rapidly between medicine, education and banking without developing clear links between them. Some references are also difficult to follow, as in “it helps to live longer,” where “it” could refer to the machines or science generally. The conclusion repeats the main claim but adds little synthesis. Group related examples more clearly, use pronouns with precise references, and add linking sentences that explain how each example supports your central argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main examples, including “medical sector,” “electronic books,” “cyber attack” and “communicate.” However, the range is limited and several expressions are repetitive or imprecise, particularly repeated uses of “science,” “sector,” “machine” and “make.” Some word choices and forms are inaccurate, such as “technoly,” “debit money” (written as “debait money”), and “make survive easily,” which can make parts of the message harder to understand. Aim for more precise collocations and vary the vocabulary when describing benefits—for example, explain that technology enables people to access services, exchange information or receive earlier diagnoses. Check spelling and choose phrases that express the intended meaning directly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple sentences and longer sentences with examples and linking clauses, so there is some variety in structure. However, errors occur frequently in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction, and they sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “science have improve,” “science help,” “students used computers” in a present-day context, and “it make data safe.” The opening phrase “is to be improve” also has an incorrect verb pattern. Work on matching subjects and verbs, using consistent present tense for general facts, and forming infinitives correctly (“to improve”). Practise combining ideas into controlled sentences, then proofread each sentence for its subject, verb and article; this will make your examples clearer without requiring more complex structures.
