Student answer (Band 5.5)
The most important aim of science should be to improve people's lives. As science has a great role in our lives. I'm totally agree with this statement due to it helps us in healthcare department and also makes our daily activities easier.
Firstly, science has improved healthcare and medical treatment. In the past, many individuals died due to diseases as doctors had not proper equipments and facilities. However, scientific research has developed modern equipments, vaccines and medicines. For instance, now physicians have modern technology like physiotherapy, laser treatment and modern machines to diagnose diseases at an early stage that provide better treatment to patients. As a result, individuals have healthier lives.
Secondly, science has made our lives easier and more comfortable. Today we use mobile phones, laptops and high quality internet to communicate with others and also use to get information very quickly. Similarly, learners can get online classes and can complete their tasks at home easily. Furthermore, refrigerators, washing machines, drier machines and all household machines makes life convenient. Science has also a major factor in environment as scientists are developing renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, to reduce pollution. They are also researching biodegradable materials to reduce plastic waste. These inventions can protect the environment and provide a better future for the next generation.
In conclusion,

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you agree that improving people’s lives should be science’s main aim, and you support it with relevant points about healthcare, convenience, and environmental protection. The medical examples, including vaccines and early diagnosis, help explain the benefits. However, several points are asserted rather than fully developed; for example, the discussion of household appliances lists benefits but gives little explanation of their wider impact. The conclusion also repeats the position without adding a developed final insight. The response is 247 words, so it falls three words short of the required minimum; the 10 words copied from the prompt are excluded from that count. Develop one or two examples further and ensure the response meets the minimum.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs organised around healthcare and everyday life, and a conclusion. Sequencing expressions such as “Firstly,” “Secondly,” “Furthermore,” and “In conclusion” make the main stages easy to follow. However, the final section begins with “In conclusion,” and then repeats that opening in the next paragraph line, creating unnecessary repetition. The second body paragraph also moves quickly from communication and learning to household appliances and environmental research, so the progression between these ideas is somewhat abrupt. Group related examples more clearly, use transitions that show how each point connects, and avoid repeating signposting phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “vaccines,” “diagnose diseases,” “renewable energy sources,” and “biodegradable materials.” These terms help communicate the main ideas, and the reader can generally understand your examples. However, the range is somewhat repetitive, with frequent use of “modern,” “science,” and “lives,” and some word combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “high quality internet,” “a better future,” and “a better choice.” There are also word-form or spelling issues, including “equipments” and “drier machines.” Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated general terms; this will make the argument sound more natural and exact.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including clauses introduced by “as,” “however,” and “that,” and most of the meaning remains understandable. Nevertheless, errors occur in basic sentence construction and agreement. “As science has a great role in our lives” is a sentence fragment, while “I’m totally agree” uses an incorrect verb form. In “machines makes life convenient,” the subject and verb do not agree, and “In conclusion, agree with that…” lacks a clear subject. The sentence beginning “For instance” also has an unclear relative clause: “that provide better treatment” does not clearly refer to the intended noun. Practise complete sentence patterns, subject–verb agreement, and clear clause links, then proofread for these recurring errors.
