Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you largely agree that improving people’s lives should be science’s main aim. You address the topic with relevant examples from communication, medicine, agriculture and transport, and explain benefits such as saving time and increasing crop yields. This gives the response a relevant, generally supported answer. However, the areas are not developed equally: the medical example is more specific, while the claims about communication and transport are brief, and the essay does not consider whether science may also have other important aims. To strengthen the response, explain the consequences of each example more fully and clarify why improving lives should take priority over other scientific goals. The conclusion could also restate this reasoning more clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The paragraphs group related examples, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the broad direction. However, progression within the body paragraphs is sometimes uneven: communication, medicine and agriculture are introduced in quick succession, and the link between the examples and the central argument is not always made explicit. Some transitions are mechanical or unclear, including “In contrast” where the discussion continues by adding another benefit. The final paragraph is very brief and does not bring the main reasons together. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and organise each paragraph around one main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “communicate,” “medical sector,” “crop yield,” “pesticides” and “transport systems.” These terms help convey a range of examples, but the overall range is limited and several word-choice, spelling and collocation errors make the writing less natural. Examples include “more mordern,” “uncurable disease,” “easy their work” and “improve people live.” Some expressions are also repeated, particularly “improve” and “science.” Aim to use accurate topic-specific phrases and check spelling and word forms. For instance, “increase crop yields” is more natural than “increase harvest and crop yield,” while “make people’s lives easier” expresses the intended meaning more clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including examples introduced with “For example” and clauses beginning “which.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement and articles sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “Because science is increase the quality” is an incomplete sentence with an incorrect verb form, while “there are various types of app which helps” has a number-agreement problem. Other examples include “most of the people are died” and “it work on it.” Capitalisation and spacing also need attention, as in “i” and “usto.” Practise forming complete sentences and checking subject–verb agreement and tense. More accurate control of these patterns would make your ideas easier to follow.
