The most important aim of science should be to improve people’s lives. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Give reasons for your answers and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
The essential goal of science ought to enhance individuals' lives. I totally agree with this statement because its aim should focus on every challenge, people are the world are facing.
To begin with, nowadays, science is compulsory subject in some educational institutions. The goal is to offer the fundamental knowledge about life, how all the biological systems work, and much more. Because it assists individuals to gain insights into the biological field along with other courses such as mathematics, english and many more. Sebsequently, there are a number of problems exist in world such as agricultural problems, climate changes, problems with animals, and many more. Individuals should focus on all these challenges too because they also have the same importance in human life which can have detrimental effects if ignored. For instance, we are facing climate changes around the globe and scientists are trying to alleviate this problem by conducting various research projects.
On the other hand, science is something that we cannot avoid at all in terms of medical field. There are compelling reasons behind this concept. All the breakthroughs being happened in the medical fields are connected with the science in certain ways. To illustrate, during COVID pendamic, science helped a lot from identifying the nature of the virus to making a life saving vaccines by different formulas. So the improtance of science should not be neglected for both the human life and other living beings. It has more improtance than technology becuase if we are living today, it is because of science and scientists behind that.
To conclude, science should equally focus on ameliorating challanges related to human and non human species. All these things contribute to ecosystem which is beneficial for humans.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the opening: you agree that science should improve lives, and the conclusion reinforces this by referring to human and non-human species. The examples of climate research and COVID-19 vaccines are relevant and help explain science’s practical value. However, the response does not develop the central argument evenly. The paragraph about science as a school subject shifts towards what students learn, without clearly showing how this supports the claim about science’s most important aim. The discussion of climate change is also brief, while the medical example is more specific. To strengthen the response, explain why improving lives should take priority over other possible aims of science, and extend each example with a clear link to that position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “To begin with” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. The ideas generally move from education and environmental challenges to medical advances. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear: the discussion of science as a school subject leads abruptly to agricultural and climate problems, and the connection between these points is not fully explained. Some linking phrases, including “Because” at the start of a sentence and “So,” make the relationships between ideas feel mechanical or incomplete. Use topic sentences that directly state each paragraph’s main reason, then connect examples to that reason with clearer explanation and referencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “biological systems,” “detrimental effects,” “alleviate,” “breakthroughs,” and “ecosystem.” These choices help communicate ideas about science, health, and the environment, and some less common terms are attempted. At times, however, word choice and collocation are inaccurate or repetitive. For example, “compulsory subject” does not clearly support the argument, while “life saving vaccines by different formulas” is an awkward way to describe vaccine development. There are also spelling errors such as “pendamic,” “improtant,” and “challanges.” Aim for precise, natural combinations of words and proofread spelling; this will make your argument sound more controlled without requiring unnecessarily complex vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning with “because” and the example introduced by “To illustrate.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors affect accuracy and sentence control. For instance, “people are the world are facing” has an incorrect structure, and “there are a number of problems exist” combines two incompatible patterns. “All the breakthroughs being happened” also uses an incorrect verb form, while “science helped a lot from identifying” has an awkward grammatical construction. Practise building complex sentences with one clear main clause and correctly formed subordinate clauses. Check subject–verb patterns, articles, and verb forms, and avoid beginning a sentence with a dependent “Because” clause unless it is completed by a main clause.
