Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
You take a clear position in the conclusion—“I agree”—and give several relevant ways science can improve lives, including medical treatment, energy, agriculture, communication, and environmental protection. This addresses the central question, and the range of examples shows an understanding of its scope. However, the position is not developed into a clear argument about why improving people’s lives should be science’s most important aim. Most examples are listed rather than explained; for instance, the discussion of renewable energy does not show how it benefits people or compare it with other possible aims of science. Some points, such as science’s role in the economy, are also left unclear. Develop fewer examples with specific explanations and connect each one directly to your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable overall sequence: it introduces the topic, presents examples from several fields, and ends with a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” and “On the other side” signal relationships between ideas. However, the body is presented as one long paragraph, and the examples move rapidly from medicine to electricity, agriculture, industry, communication, and the environment without clear grouping or progression. Several transitions are awkward or do not express the intended relationship, and repeated additions such as “also” make the writing feel list-like. Use separate paragraphs for the main argument and supporting examples, and organise them around a few connected reasons. Clearer referencing and more precise transitions would help readers follow how each example supports your position.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “medical,” “solar energy,” “geothermal energy,” “agriculture,” and “communication,” and this gives the response some useful subject-specific range. However, the range is limited by repeated general words such as “people,” “different,” and “also,” while several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear—for example, “electrical sciences,” “communication center,” and “protection of environment.” Spelling errors such as “modren,” “techonlogy,” and “enviornment” are noticeable and sometimes make reading harder. Build a bank of accurate topic phrases, and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise expressions for benefits, such as access to treatment or increased crop yields, would make your examples clearer and more convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt to connect ideas in longer sentences and use some subordinate clauses, so there is an effort to go beyond simple sentence patterns. However, many sentences are difficult to follow because of problems with sentence boundaries, agreement, articles, and verb forms. For example, “it's helps people” has incorrect agreement, while “hospitals has advance machinery which can helps” contains several errors in the same clause. The long sentence beginning “On the other side science also can play…” joins multiple ideas without clear punctuation, making the relationships hard to track. Aim for shorter, complete sentences first, then add complex structures where you can control them. Check subject–verb agreement, verb forms after modal verbs, and punctuation when joining clauses.
