Student answer (Band 6.0)

The most important objective of science should be to improve the life of people. I strongly agree with this statement because of many vital reasons which I am going to discuss further in this essay.

There are multiple reasons for why the crucial objective of science is to bring betterment to people's live. One them is that science is a man made thing. So, it should be used to facilitate the humans. Mostly the projects of science are developed to provide convinience to the people. In my opinion science is somehow related to people's life. For instance, the cars and other vehicles were invented to help people with the issues of transportation because before cars were introduced people usually travelled by horses or camels which took them so long to reach their destination. This issue was ultimately resolved by the invention of vehicles such as cars, buses, bikes, air-crafts and engine boats.

Before the development of science, the life of people was hard to live. They have to do most of the tasks manually which takes a lot time and effort. However with the development of science things start getting easier and easier, gradually improving the life of people. As it is said: Science is a noble gift to humanity. Science infact has improved the quality of life in many possible ways and will continue to do so. The obective of science should not be to bring complexities to people life. It should do converse to that and should make positive improvements in people's life.

To conclude, I would say that the objective of science should remain to improve the life of people rather than bringing disastors.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that science should improve people’s lives, and the conclusion restates this view. The examples of transport and the shift from manual work to easier tasks are relevant and show how science can benefit people. However, the discussion is not equally developed throughout. The transport example explains a specific change, while the later claim that science has improved life “in many possible ways” remains general and is not supported with a further example. The essay also focuses mainly on convenience and does not consider other important ways science can improve lives, such as healthcare or safety. Develop each main reason with a specific example and explanation to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress from the purpose of science to examples of its practical benefits, and linking expressions such as “For instance,” “However,” and “To conclude” help guide the reader. Some connections are less smooth or repetitive: the second body paragraph repeats the idea that science makes life easier without clearly adding a distinct reason, and “So” creates a rather abrupt link after the claim that science is man-made. Referencing in phrases such as “This issue” is understandable, but the essay would be clearer if each paragraph had a more distinct central point and the supporting sentences were linked directly to it.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a range of vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “transportation,” “development,” “quality of life,” and “humanity.” There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “facilitate” and “noble gift,” although some choices are inaccurate or unnatural in context. Examples include “betterment” and “bring complexities to people life”; more natural phrasing would be “improve people’s lives” and “make people’s lives more complicated.” Spelling errors such as “convinience,” “obective,” and “disastors” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural collocations and check spelling carefully, especially in key topic vocabulary. This would make your ideas sound clearer and more controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “vehicles … which took them so long” and a contrast introduced by “However.” Most of the meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors occur in basic patterns and longer sentences. For example, “One them is” needs “One of them is,” while “They have to do most of the tasks manually which takes” has a tense and agreement problem; “They had to do …, which took” would fit the past-time context. There are also missing articles or possessives in “people life” and “a lot time.” Work on consistent tense choices, subject–verb agreement, and sentence punctuation, while continuing to practise complex structures.
