Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You take a generally supportive position, arguing that science improves health and quality of life, and you give relevant examples such as biotechnology, medical tests, and hospital equipment. These examples show an attempt to explain why science matters. However, the response only partly develops the question of whether improving people’s lives should be science’s most important aim. The discussion of discouraging smoking and alcohol use is difficult to follow, and the conclusion merely says science is important rather than restating your view about its priority. To strengthen the response, state your position clearly in the introduction and explain why this aim should take precedence over other possible aims, such as expanding knowledge or developing technology. Develop each example with a clear link to that argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: an opening, two body sections introduced by “On the one side” and “On the other side,” and a concluding sentence. The examples are broadly grouped by topic, which gives the reader a basic route through the response. However, the overall progression is not consistently clear. The second body paragraph shifts from the harm caused by smoking and alcohol to government shelters and treatment without explaining the connection to science. Several sentences run together, and transitions such as “As far as I’m concerned” do not clearly signal how the final point relates to the earlier examples. Use one main idea per paragraph, connect each example explicitly to your argument, and use accurate, varied linking phrases rather than relying on formulaic transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “biotechnology,” “laboratory,” “virus,” “ECG,” and “MRI,” and these terms help convey a scientific context. There are also attempts to use less common expressions, such as “distress cough” and “flowchart,” but several choices are inaccurate or unclear, which sometimes makes the intended meaning difficult to understand. Spelling errors such as “powefull,” “technoly,” and “cigarratte” are noticeable, while phrases such as “more easy and knowledgable” do not express the intended idea naturally. Build a more reliable range of collocations for health and scientific progress, and check spelling and word forms. Prefer precise, familiar wording when you are unsure of a more advanced expression.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a sentence beginning “For instance” that describes a medical example. However, complex sentences are often difficult to follow because of errors in verb forms, sentence boundaries, and clause structure. For example, “Science playing a great role” lacks a finite verb, while “someone were going through” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. The opening also has an incomplete construction in “For making our lifestyle healthy, we should be know.” Articles and punctuation are inconsistent, and several ideas are joined without clear sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate subject–verb–object sentences first, then add subordinate clauses with clear punctuation. Check tense and agreement in every sentence, especially when describing general facts.
