Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you strongly agree that science should improve people’s lives, and the healthcare, agriculture, transport and communication examples are relevant. The discussion of medicines and hybrid seeds gives useful support, while electric vehicles and smartphones broaden the response. This covers the task well, and the examples show some development beyond simply stating your opinion. However, the essay mainly lists benefits rather than explaining why improving lives should be science’s most important aim compared with other possible aims, such as expanding knowledge. Some examples, particularly autonomous vehicles and smartphones, are asserted briefly and could be linked more explicitly to your central argument. A more developed explanation of this priority would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs signposted by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a conclusion. The examples are generally grouped by topic, so readers can follow the broad direction of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes difficult to track: the first body paragraph moves from healthcare to agriculture without a clear link, and the second combines transport, road safety and communication. Connectors such as “Furthermore” and “In addition” are used repeatedly, while some links are unclear, as in “Taking a consideration by improving the quality of life.” The conclusion also introduces ideas in a fragmented way. Use clearer topic sentences and make each paragraph develop one connected line of reasoning.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “chemotherapy,” “hybrid seeds,” “fuel efficiency,” “carbon emission” and “autonomous vehicles.” These choices help communicate the subject and show attempts to use more specific language than basic everyday terms. However, errors in word choice, collocation and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the meaning less natural: “science raise the standard,” “made our life modern,” “cold engines,” and “cuase global warming.” Several phrases are also repetitive, especially “improving” and “different,” and “easy” is used where a more precise description would strengthen the point. Aim to learn common word partnerships and check spelling and word forms; this will make your vocabulary more accurate and flexible.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “which,” “by” and “as,” and the overall meaning is usually recoverable. However, control is inconsistent, particularly in longer sentences. Examples include “science raise,” “science play,” and “the agriculture sector become,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect, as well as “the autonomous vehicles are introduce,” which has an incorrect verb form. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention: “a human life” and “For instance Tesla…” would benefit from more accurate article use and punctuation. Some sentences combine several ideas without a clear grammatical structure, especially in the conclusion. Practise building accurate complex sentences and proofreading agreement, verb forms and punctuation.
