Student answer (Band 5.0)

Science has always been there since the world began. Continuous scientific reasearch have significantly improve the people's lives. It was never a question because the proof can be seen everywhere.

I strongly agree that the only main purpose of science is to help improve the lives of people in this world. We should use the resources we have to help develop vaccines or cure for long term illness. However, some people have been using science to develop biological weapons. One example is creating poison or virus that could kill thousands of people. Another example is the robotics, which is being build to make an army for war. Some people are using their knowledge and skills to dominate other countries.

On the other hand, there are still others who try to make this world better. But there are still those who continue to do good and make use of their intelligence by developing medicines such as cure for cancer. There are other technological developments as well, as can be seen, every year a lot of advanced technology has been developed. We are enjoying the fruits of it in the form of gadgets and internet.

Moreover, there are yet to discover in the vast oceanIt is wide and deep. It is worth the exploration, hoping that people could find something that could help in our daily lives. For example, elements or new species that we can use for making medicine or food. It is mportant that it

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You take a clear position by stating, “I strongly agree,” and give relevant examples involving vaccines, biological weapons, robotics, medicines, and technology. These show awareness that science can be used for both beneficial and harmful purposes. However, the response only partially develops the question: it shifts between saying science’s “only main purpose” should help people and describing what scientists currently do, without explaining why improving lives should be the most important aim. Several points, especially ocean exploration, are introduced but not completed or linked clearly to your position. The response is also five words below the required minimum. To strengthen the argument, explain each example’s significance and conclude with a direct summary of your view.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, and phrases such as “On the other hand” and “Moreover” signal changes in direction. The discussion also moves from harmful uses of science to beneficial developments. However, progression is uneven: the second and third paragraphs repeat the contrast between harmful and helpful science, while the final paragraph begins an ocean-exploration idea and then breaks off. Some links are unclear, including the relationship between the opening claim and the examples that follow. The use of “But” after “On the other hand” also makes the contrast feel repetitive. Organise the essay around a clear sequence—position, supporting reasons, counterpoint, and conclusion—and use linking phrases only where they clarify the relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “vaccines,” “biological weapons,” “robotics,” “medicines,” and “technological developments.” This allows you to discuss several aspects of science, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, vocabulary is sometimes imprecise or repetitive: “help improve the lives” and “make this world better” express similar ideas, while “cure for long term illness” and “advanced technology” could be more specific. There are also noticeable spelling and word-form errors, such as “reasearch,” “mportant,” and “build” where a different form is needed. Aim for more precise collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, distinguish between developing a treatment and finding a cure.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast introduced by “However” and the example beginning “For example.” The main ideas can usually be followed, but errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For instance, “Continuous scientific reasearch have significantly improve” has problems with subject–verb agreement and verb form, and “the robotics, which is being build” has agreement and passive-form errors. The final section also contains an incomplete sentence: “Moreover, there are yet to discover in the vast oceanIt is wide and deep.” Review agreement, tense and verb forms, and make sure each sentence is complete. Breaking long or unfinished thoughts into clear sentences will improve accuracy and readability.
