Student answer (Band 6.0)
The most essential motive of science should be to ease people's lives. This essay agrees with this statement as we live in a world where we rely on scientific devices to lead our life smoothly to an extent that we can't even think of a day without using such devices e.g. smartphones.
Science has produced so many techonological devices till today that we use to make our life easier. We need them every day. For example, the transport systems have changed a lot since past thanks to scientific advancement. The aeroplanes that we see today has been like an unattainable dream for people in the past. But today, it has made our life so easy by making our long distance travels effortless.
Science is also helpful in other fields like medical. Nowadays, so many diseases are curable with the help of advanced medicines and technology which are made for the wellbeing of people by science. For instance, pandemics like diarrhea used to take people's lives in huge numbers in the past days. But now it is easy to cure diseases like this easily as we have advanced scientific medicines and doctors who have better scientific knowledge with us.
To conclude, we can agree with the fact that science should be used to ease people's lives. And we see variuos scientific works that alligns with this idea. Science has shown it's valuable achievements in areas like transport and medical that eases people's lives. That's the reason I think that science should only be used for the wellbeing of mankind.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you agree that science should aim to improve people’s lives, and the conclusion restates this view. The transport and medical examples are relevant and show how scientific progress can benefit society. However, the discussion is not equally developed: the transport paragraph explains the benefit of air travel, while the medical paragraph makes broad claims about diseases and medicines without explaining a specific example in much detail. The response also ends by saying science should “only” be used for human wellbeing, a stronger claim than the task requires and one not fully supported by the preceding points. Develop each example with clearer explanation and keep the scope of your conclusion consistent with your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Each body paragraph focuses on a distinct area—transport and medicine—and signposting such as “For example,” “For instance” and “To conclude” helps readers follow the argument. At times, however, the links between ideas feel mechanical, and some references are unclear. In “Science has produced so many technological devices … that we use,” the relationship between the devices and the following sentence could be expressed more smoothly. The conclusion also repeats the central claim and examples rather than drawing the reasoning together. Use more precise referencing and connect each example explicitly to the claim that improving lives is science’s most important aim.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your ideas, including “scientific advancement,” “transport systems,” “curable” and “wellbeing.” There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “unattainable dream.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive: “ease people’s lives” and “make our life so easy” recur, while “pandemics like diarrhea” is not an appropriate description of the example. Spelling errors such as “techonological,” “variuos” and “alligns” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise terms and natural collocations, and proofread spelling. A wider range of accurate expressions for benefits and medical advances would make the argument more flexible and clear.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and longer structures, including a relative clause in “devices … that we use” and a contrast introduced by “But today.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “The aeroplanes … has been” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “since past” is not a correctly formed time expression. In “it is easy to cure diseases like this easily,” the sentence structure is awkward and repeats the adverbial idea. There are also issues with articles and possessives, as in “lead our life” and “Science has shown it’s valuable achievements.” Practise agreement, article use and possessive forms, and revise longer sentences to ensure each clause is grammatically controlled.
