Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the recent times, scientific innovations make people's lives easier, While some argue that they should explore nature and oceans, I strongly agree that the most important aim of science should be to improve people's lives

To begin with, with the help of science, many people lives have been improved, because of advacement in technology or in health care sectors. For instance, with the help of science some uncureable diseases are now treated with advance and improved medication. such as cancer and tumors are now treated with better technologies and it helped the patient to survive the illnesS. Scientific research has led to vaccines, anitibiotic, and advance surgeries , which saved millions of lives. For example, In COVID-19, it was science that developed vaccines in a very short time.

Furthermore, Science improved our daily comfort and communication. inventions like electricity. the internet, and smartphones have made life musch easier and more connected. people can work from home, students can learn things online, and talk to family members at any time. All of this things directly improve the quality of life. Therefore, when science focuses on human needs, its benefits are immediate and meaningful.

Of course, Some argue that science should also aim to explore tha universe or understand nature, even if it does not immediately help people. for example, space exploration or studying deep oceans may not improve our lives right now. However, I believe even this kind of research eventually helps humanity.

In conclusion, I strongly agree that the main aim of science should be to improve people's lives. while exploring knowledge for its own sake is also important, the most significant achivements of science are those that make our lives healthier, safer, and more comfortable.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you strongly agree that science should primarily improve people’s lives. You address the counterargument about exploring nature and space, then explain that such research may benefit humanity later. The examples of vaccines, cancer treatment, and online learning are relevant and help support your view. This meets the task well, and the response also shows some of the stronger development expected at the next level. However, the discussion of exploration is brief, and claims such as research benefits being “immediate and meaningful” could be explained more precisely. Develop each main point with a clearer explanation of how the example improves people’s lives.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs supporting your position, a counterargument, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have a recognisable central focus, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “Of course” help readers follow the progression. However, some linking is mechanical, and the relationship between ideas is not always smooth. For example, the first body paragraph moves from medical treatment to vaccines without clearly distinguishing these supporting points, while “All of this things” refers back to several examples imprecisely. Use referencing more carefully and connect examples to the claim they support. More varied, natural transitions and clearer links between sentences would make the progression more fluent.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “scientific research,” “vaccines,” “space exploration,” “quality of life,” and “communication.” These choices make your main ideas clear, and you attempt some more specific terms when discussing medicine and technology. However, spelling and word-choice errors occur in items such as “advacement,” “uncureable,” “anitibiotic,” and “achivements,” and some expressions are imprecise or unnatural, including “advance and improved medication” and “many people lives.” These errors do not prevent understanding, but they reduce accuracy and polish. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations, such as “medical advances” and “improve people’s quality of life,” so your vocabulary sounds more natural and precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a concession beginning “Of course” and a conditional-style explanation with “when science focuses on human needs.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical and punctuation errors recur. For example, “many people lives have been improved” has incorrect agreement and possessive form, while “All of this things” has a number mismatch. Sentence boundaries and capitalisation are also inconsistent: “inventions like electricity. the internet” is incorrectly divided, and several sentences begin with lowercase letters after full stops. Review subject–verb agreement, singular and plural forms, and sentence punctuation. Greater control of these basics, alongside your existing sentence variety, would make the writing more accurate.
