Student answer (Band 5.5)

The most significant goal of science is to change and affect the lives of individuals in a positive way. This also depends in which branch of science a person is involved in ?. In my point of view, I strongly agree that scientists no matter what they are doing or try to do today, their main goal is to ease our way of leaving, make us enjoy life in the best possible ways and to increase life expectancy on earth.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear: you strongly agree that science should improve people’s lives, and you give relevant examples involving household technology and entertainment. However, the response addresses the task only partially because the ideas are brief and not sufficiently explained. For example, you mention electrical cleaners and laundry machines, but do not show in detail how they improve people’s lives or consider the wider impact of science. The claim that science should increase life expectancy is introduced but not developed. The response is also 46 words below the required minimum, which limits the space available to support your reasons. Develop each main point with explanation and a specific example, and clarify whether improving lives is science’s most important aim or one of several aims.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting benefits, and a conclusion that restates your view. This makes the main line of argument easy to follow. The paragraphs also each focus on a related idea, such as making tasks easier or life more enjoyable. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and some linking is mechanical or unclear. For instance, “Also, another positive effect” repeats the same additive function, while “This also depends in which branch of science a person is involved in” is not clearly connected to the position that follows. Build clearer links between each claim, its explanation, and its example, and use referencing and transitions more precisely.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the central ideas, including “life expectancy,” “technology,” “daily tasks,” and “workloads.” There are also attempts to express benefits in different ways, such as making life “less difficult” and “more interesting.” However, the range is limited and several word choices, forms, or spellings are inaccurate or unnatural, which reduces precision. Examples include “leaving” where you mean “living,” “proof” instead of “prove,” “lifes,” and “possitive.” Some phrases are also awkward, such as “electrical cleaners” and “made live more interesting.” Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling and word forms; more precise vocabulary would help explain the effects of scientific developments.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You communicate your main position using both simple statements and some longer sentence forms, including the opening sentence and the sentence beginning “In my point of view.” However, the range of structures is limited, and errors in agreement, articles, sentence boundaries, and punctuation are frequent enough to affect clarity. For example, “Science try” should use a singular verb, and “it makes our lives more easy” has an incorrect comparative form. The opening also contains an awkward question structure ending in “involved in ?”, while the conclusion joins ideas without maintaining parallel grammar: “by easing … and also increase.” Practise accurate subject–verb agreement and build longer sentences around one clear grammatical pattern, checking punctuation and spacing as you edit.
