Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You state a clear position—“I strongly agree”—and give two relevant areas: health-related products and cancer treatment. The examples of creatine and radiation show an attempt to support your view, but the explanations are limited and some claims are unclear or inaccurate, such as saying chemotherapy “removes cancer side effects” before radiation. The response therefore addresses the task only partially, with ideas that are under-developed rather than fully explaining why improving lives should be science’s primary aim. The required minimum of 250 words is not met; the response contains 183 words. To strengthen your answer, explain each example more carefully and add another developed reason or acknowledge other aims of science, such as expanding knowledge, before explaining why human welfare should take priority.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs beginning with “In addition” and “Additionally,” and a conclusion. This makes the main line of argument reasonably easy to follow. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and the examples sometimes appear without a clear explanation of how they support the central claim. For instance, the discussion moves from creatine to saving money without fully connecting these points. Some linking is mechanical, and punctuation around transitions is inconsistent, as in “Nowadays diseases like cancer can be cure…” followed by “For example.” Develop a clearer sequence in each paragraph—main point, explanation, specific example, and link back to the question—and use referencing and transitions more precisely.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “human health,” “dangerous diseases,” “radiation,” “chemotherapy,” and “treatment,” which helps communicate the subject. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors make parts difficult to understand: “healtcare,” “cretine,” “protine,” and “cemiotherapy.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “make cure of dangerous diseases easy” and “fullfill their daily body requirment.” Aim to use accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully, especially for technical terms. You could also vary repeated general words such as “people” and “science” with precise alternatives, while ensuring that any scientific vocabulary is used accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including a result clause beginning “Consequently” and a sentence explaining the effects of treatment. However, the range is limited, and frequent errors in sentence structure and verb forms sometimes make meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “science contribute,” “Science actively contributing,” and “diseases like cancer can be cure,” where the verb forms do not fit the subject or construction. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in the opening phrase “about primary aim” and the run-on conclusion joining two independent ideas with a comma. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, passive forms, and complete sentence construction before adding more complex structures.
