Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world scientific progress affects almost every aspect of humans life. I strongly agree with this statement that the most important aim of science should be to improve people's lives.

To begin with, science has greatly improved healthcare. Vaccines and medicines save millions of lives, and science also help to treat many different diseases. For example, COVID-19 vaccines protected people from severe illuness and helped the world return to normal life. Furthermore, vaccines for animals protect livestock, whicdi h helps provide safe food for people.

In addition, science has made daily life easier and more comfortable. Electricity items such as, dishwasher, marowave, washing machine, and many more really help working women to manage their homes and jobs conveniently. Moreover, internet and mobile phones allow people to communicate with their family members who are living abroad and allow students to access education from home. For instance, during the pandemic, students continued their studies through online classes on Zoom and Google meet apps and many teachers could still teach.

Certain people believe that science science should also focus on space exploration or military technology. However, these areas are only valueable if they eventually benefit human beings, for example through better weather forecasting or improved safety.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that the main purpose of science is to improve people's lives. Although other goals exist, healthcare and daily comfort show thst science is most valueable when it serve humanity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you strongly agree that science should improve people’s lives. You support this with relevant examples from healthcare, household technology and online education, and you briefly acknowledge other aims such as space exploration and military technology. However, some points are more fully developed than others; the animal-vaccine example and the claim about working women managing home and work are not explained in much detail. The response also falls 22 words short of the 250-word minimum, with 10 words copied from the task prompt excluded from the count. Develop one or two examples further by explaining their wider impact, while keeping your position consistent.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting benefits, a counterpoint, and a conclusion. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “Furthermore,” and “In addition” make the progression easy to follow, and the examples generally sit beside the points they support. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some of the flexibility expected at the next level. However, the sequence of examples within the second body paragraph feels list-like, and repeated additive transitions make the cohesion somewhat mechanical. Group related examples and explain how each supports the main claim; also make references such as “these areas” more explicit by naming the fields again.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “healthcare,” “vaccines,” “livestock,” “space exploration,” and “weather forecasting.” The meaning is generally clear, but spelling errors and imprecise or awkward word choices are noticeable and limit the range and control. Examples include “illuness,” “marowave,” “valueable,” and “most valueable”; “electricity items” is also an unnatural phrase for household appliances. Some wording is repetitive, particularly “people’s lives” and “help.” To strengthen this criterion, check spelling carefully and choose more precise collocations, such as “household appliances” and “improve quality of life.” A broader range of accurate verbs and topic-specific phrases would make the argument more precise.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “family members who are living abroad” and a conditional structure in “if they eventually benefit human beings.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “science also help” needs subject–verb agreement (“science also helps”), and “when it serve humanity” should be “when it serves humanity.” The opening phrase “humans life” also needs a possessive form (“human life” or “humans’ lives”). There are some punctuation and sentence-boundary issues, including the comma after “such as” in “Electricity items such as, dishwasher.” Aim to proofread agreement, possessives, articles and punctuation, while continuing to use varied sentence structures.
