Student answer (Band 6.0)

The most significant purpose of science should be to enhance people's lives. This essay will delve into the importance of science in the lives of people and then will show my opinion related to agreement or disagreement.

The science is spreading day by day in multiple fields like medical, computer and agriculture etc. All of these have signficance role in people lives, and have strong impact on their daily routine. Some people suffering from illness, whose treatment wasn't available at first, but after some research, they got the remedy. Medical science make awareness among people related to the health issues and how to tackle them. Most importantly the medical science made possible to improve people's vision by introducing laser operation. For instance, people who are wearing glasses for a long period of time, can get rid of them by having laser operation.

On the other hand, if we talk about computer science, people who speak through sign language, now have multiple application where they can communicate through them. Some companies have virtual assistants, which are basically artificial intelligence. From my perspective, I totally agree with the notion, it really helped and improved individual's lives. For instance, the majority of people using ai for their help in work such as using them to book appointments and meetings, which made their lives easier.

In conclusion, it implies that science has great importance in the improvement of workers, patients, students and residents lives. It improved people's health, reduced workloads and much more. It also helped in improvement of security features, both physically and virtually of a system.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you agree that science should aim to improve people’s lives, and the examples from medicine and computer science are relevant to the question. The discussion of laser surgery and AI assistance gives the response a sound basis, and the conclusion returns to the central claim. However, the opening promises to discuss science’s importance and then your opinion, rather than stating your position directly. Some points are also less fully developed: the sign-language applications are mentioned without explaining how they work or what benefit they provide, and the final claims about security and different groups’ lives are not supported with examples. Develop fewer examples in more depth and connect each explicitly to your argument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs on medical and computer science, and a conclusion. The progression from health benefits to technology is generally easy to follow, and phrases such as “For instance” help introduce examples. However, some linking is mechanical or imprecise: “On the other hand” suggests a contrast, although computer science is another supporting example rather than an opposing view. The introduction’s “This essay will delve…” also delays the main position. Within paragraphs, ideas sometimes move quickly from one benefit to another, especially in the conclusion. Use clearer topic sentences and transitions that show whether you are adding, contrasting, or explaining an idea, and make references such as “them” unambiguous.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “medical science,” “artificial intelligence,” “laser operation,” and “security features,” so the reader can understand the subject and examples. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “significant purpose” and “notion.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or unnatural, as in “signficance role,” “people lives,” “made awareness,” and “improvement of workers.” “Laser operation” is less precise than the usual term “laser surgery,” and “multiple application” needs a more natural expression. Spelling errors such as “signficance” also reduce accuracy. Build a bank of common academic collocations and check spelling, word forms, and singular/plural forms when editing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including relative clauses (“people who speak through sign language”) and a conditional structure (“if we talk about computer science”). The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “Medical science make” needs subject–verb agreement, while “Some people suffering from illness” is an incomplete clause in this context. Articles and plurals are also inconsistent in “a long period of time” and “multiple application,” and the sentence beginning “For instance, the majority of people using ai…” lacks a clear finite verb in its first clause. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, then check agreement, articles, and plural endings. This will make your varied structures more controlled.
