Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that the most crucial goal of science should be to develop people's lives. I completely agree with this view because science can contribute in a positive way to people's lives and improve their quality of life.

The primary reason why I support this idea is that science and technology playing a vital role in this modern era. Science is an indispensable part of our daily life and we use it every sector. For example, Telecommunication is a great invention of science, which changed our communication pathway. As a result, we can easily communicate from anywhere with in a while. In additon, It also contribute in healthcare system. By using technology, people can easily detect their disease and get a cure for many severe diseases, such as cancer.

Another important innovation is Artificial Intelligence, which makes people's lives much easier than before. It changed the way of thinking and created a large impact on every aspect of life. For instance, people can create websites, generate images, and videos within a second. Consequently, business woners can use it for marketing and save their money. Therefore, students can use it for their exam preparation and also help with a research paper. However, it has some drawbacks because people are losing their jobs because of AI. But I think this problem can be addressed by taking some measures.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that the improvement of people's lives should be a main motive for science. Because it is important to improve people's quality of lifes and science can be played a vital role in every espect of people's lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you agree that improving people’s lives should be science’s main aim. You support this with relevant examples, including telecommunications, medical diagnosis and treatment, and AI’s uses in business and education. This addresses the task and gives the reader a sound basis for your view. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, you mention AI-related job losses and say the problem can be addressed “by taking some measures,” but do not identify or explain any measures. The healthcare example could also show more specifically how scientific advances improve people’s lives. More developed explanations and a clearer response to the drawback would make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The paragraphs each have a central focus, and linking expressions such as “For example,” “As a result,” and “In conclusion” help show how ideas relate. The progression from everyday science to AI is understandable. At times, however, cohesion feels mechanical because several sentences begin with explicit connectors, including “In addition,” “Consequently,” and “Therefore.” The AI paragraph also moves quickly from benefits to job losses and then to an unspecified solution, so the relationship between these points could be made clearer. Use referencing and transitions more selectively, and develop the links between claims and examples to create smoother progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “indispensable,” “telecommunication,” “healthcare system,” “Artificial Intelligence,” and “marketing.” These choices make the subject clear, and the examples show an attempt to use language beyond basic everyday terms. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise, such as “develop people’s lives,” “communication pathway,” and “within a second”; these reduce naturalness even though the intended meaning is generally understandable. There are also spelling errors, including “additon,” “woners,” and “espect,” alongside inconsistent capitalisation of “Telecommunication” and “It.” Aim for more natural academic collocations and proofread spelling and capitalisation so your vocabulary is used more precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “a great invention of science, which changed…” and a subordinate clause beginning “because people are losing their jobs.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “science and technology playing a vital role” needs a finite verb, and “It also contribute” has a subject–verb agreement error. The final sentence, “science can be played a vital role,” uses an incorrect passive construction; “science can play a vital role” is the appropriate pattern. There are also issues with articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries, as in “quality of lifes” and the fragment beginning “Because” in the conclusion. Check verb forms and agreement, and revise sentence boundaries carefully.
