Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you agree that science should improve people’s lives, and you give two relevant areas—healthcare and education/communication. The examples of medical treatment and online learning during the pandemic help connect your reasons to the topic. However, the response addresses the question only partially because it does not explain why improving lives should be science’s most important aim, or consider other possible aims of science. Some support is also under-developed: the healthcare example says equipment helps doctors save lives, but does not explain the wider impact. The response is 8 words below the required minimum, so it also needs a little more development. Explain your reasoning more fully and make the link to the task’s wording explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “Firstly” and “Secondly,” and a conclusion. This makes the main points easy to identify, and the healthcare and education ideas are grouped appropriately. However, progression within sentences is sometimes difficult to follow, particularly in the second body paragraph, where internet access, smartphones, information gathering, and online classes are packed together. Linking phrases such as “Moreover” and “As a result” are used, but some connections are mechanical or unclear; for example, “As the result” does not clearly show how the preceding point leads to the conclusion. Use clearer sentence boundaries and refer back to ideas precisely, so the reader can follow how each example supports your argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a relevant set of topic words, including “health care,” “diseases,” “communicate,” “information,” and “online teaching,” which allows you to discuss both main examples. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, sometimes making the reader pause: “eaiser,” “faclitices,” “medicien,” and “qulaity” are examples. Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “science plays a scientific role” and “better medical equipments.” Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise terms such as “medical advances,” “access to education,” and “quality of life” would help express your ideas clearly without relying on repeated general words like “better” and “easier.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a result clause (“As a result, many people have better chances…”) and a sentence beginning “whereas.” However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “It have been argued” has incorrect subject–verb agreement, while “science has made our lives easier by providing… and science has made…” creates an awkward, poorly controlled structure. There are also problems with articles, plurals, and verb forms, as in “many people lives,” “its also help them,” and “people has the chance.” Practise building accurate sentences with one main idea at a time, then add subordinate clauses only when you can control their grammar and punctuation.
