Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that the most important aim of science should be to improve individual's lives.I partially agree with this statement because technology must be useful for humans and not harmful.

On the one hand, it is believed among individuals is that technology must be beneficial for humans and no doubt, science proved this and if we compare the present teachnology with previous years, we see a massive difference .Every thing has two aspects, advantages and disadvantages . Scrience made our life much easier such as travelling for aeroplanes, trains and other transports that made human's life easy.Additionally , now people can travel long distance in few hours that was not possible without the science and technology. People now can buy anything on one-click by using their cellular phones and science has changed the lifestyle of human beings and it looks soo unrealistic. We can now talk with someone who lives far away without any disturbance and all this became possible by the help of science. For instance, Japan made the fastest train ever in the history of humans.

On the other hand, it has some several disadvantages, science helped the scientist to make tanks, weapons, bullets and missiles that is not good at all for humans. Now people prefer to spend more time in using mobile phones which is soo harmful for their eyes and they have stopped doing outdoor activities that was very common in the absence of science.Morever, it's advantages are more than disadvantges and most importantdepends on the person either he is using science for the betterment or harmness for the society.

In conclusion, the necessary part of the science must be to improve the people's lives .I partially agree with the statement because it has benefits as well as drawbacks and it depends on individuals how they utilize science.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you partially agree, recognising science’s benefits while noting that it can also be harmful. You address both sides with relevant examples, including faster transport, online shopping and communication, as well as weapons and reduced outdoor activity. This covers the task, but some points are asserted rather than explained. For example, the Japan train example is not connected to a specific improvement in people’s lives, and the claim that mobile-phone use harms eyesight would benefit from explanation or support. Clarify what you mean by science’s “most important aim” and develop your reasons more fully, especially how scientific progress should be directed to maximise benefits and limit harm.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall structure: an introduction states your position, two body paragraphs present contrasting views, and a conclusion restates your opinion. The signposts “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help readers follow this contrast. However, several ideas are crowded together in long sentences, and links between them can feel mechanical. In the first body paragraph, transport, shopping, communication and the Japan train example appear in quick succession without enough explanation of how each supports the main point. Some references are also unclear, such as “it has some several disadvantages.” Group related examples, use clearer transitions between them, and make pronouns refer unmistakably to science or technology.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate your main ideas, including “missiles,” “outdoor activities,” “lifestyle” and “betterment.” However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make the writing less precise. Examples include “previous years” where “earlier decades” would fit better, “one-click” instead of “a single click,” and “harmness,” which is not the appropriate noun. There are also misspellings such as “teachnology,” “Scrience” and “disadvantges.” Aim to learn accurate topic collocations and check spelling carefully; replacing repeated general terms such as “easy” and “good” with more precise language will also strengthen your expression.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the overall meaning is generally understandable. Some sentence structures, however, are faulty or difficult to follow. For example, “it is believed among individuals is that” contains an unnecessary verb structure, while “Every thing has two aspects, advantages and disadvantages” joins ideas with a comma where a full stop or conjunction is needed. There are also errors in articles, agreement and sentence boundaries, as in “for aeroplanes, trains and other transports that made human's life easy” and “activities that was very common.” Practise building accurate complex sentences, checking subject–verb agreement and articles, and separating complete ideas with appropriate punctuation.
